Thought apart form a dodgy opening 10 mins, he had a very good game yesterday. Used the ball very well. Off the ball is obvs his weak spot.

McCarthy replacing Osman is a no brainer to me -
Time has unfortunately caught up with Ossie -
he will not make the starting line-up of any other top 10 PL side - not even with a bribe -
at best he can be used as cover for the youngsters

He's played every minute of every competitive game we've had under Martinez like. Despite being the worst player on the pitch in all of them.

I'm not sure where you got this idea that he's no longer enjoying an easy ride from.

Surely that's pretty obvious ?

Gibson has been injured since the start of the season and we replaced one CM with two in the transfer window. Once Gibson is fit there will be four players fighting for two places. Martinez has shown he clearly wants Barry as part of the starting XI, and he wouldn't have bought McCarthy for £13m if he intended on him being a bench player.

In all fairness, as brilliant as Barry is - he's old. I know he'll do a job for this season (and possible next, if we choose so), but in a season's time we have to look for someone from the same ilk as him. With that said - my main worry isn't the CM position, but the DM.

Anyway, Leon's put in some decent performances. I still expect to see Gibson and McCarthy in that role, with him stepping down a bit (or a lot) soon. It makes no sense to not play either of them, with preference to the younger one, seeing as that's Martinez's whole mindset about players.

Martinez:

Leon is more than just a footballer. He represents Everton. He’s an incredible guide to the young players.

I want the strongest squad we can have and then it’s down to the performances of the players and Leon has been outstanding this season.

Nobody has a label of what their role is going to be at the club. I don’t sit down at my desk and pick the team – I allow football to make that decision.

Leon has been fantastic so far and it’s someone else’s job to try and get him out of that position.

His influence in the team is beyond playing or not playing.

See a lot of negative stuff on here regarding Osman and even though I'm not his greatest fan a lot of the stick he gets seems to over the top!
Did you see Leon after the final whistle v Chelsea? Fist clenched punching the air to the gwladys street loving it just as much as we do. He is one of us and is great to have here. Showing the new players what being at the club is all about.
The lad never hides and despite a lot of opinions on here I think his technical ability, passing and ability to maneuver out of difficult situations is impressive. He does lack in strength and you can also tell when he is nackered, especially the last season or so he looks dead on his feet, but with a stronger midfield we have the option to rest him when looking jaded.
It is important during this transitional period that we keep some of the strengths moyes brought us while building on martinez's ideas and ossie epitomises a lot of that. He needs to be here its his home and in my view I'm proud to have Leon Osman at this club

I'm just happy that Osman now got competition and will have to fight for his place now, he wont be carried by Moyes anymore.

Apart for maybe the tail end of last season, Leon Osman was never "carried" by Moyes. On the contrary, since Arteta left he´s been integral in Evertons midfield and over the years we´ve played better and won more matches when he´s been on the pitch.

As for the current situation, all I want is competition for places. If Martinez wants him to play I support that decision.
