should be backup to barkley and possible centre mid at a push? 3rd/4th choice RM backup in case something goes badly wrong.

shouldn't be starting though and i don't think martinez will start him

Interesting, fans sticking the boot into players in pre season games but look the other way when it comes to the side selection, tactics and match results in pre season.

Bob knows the everton players very well I doubt a few pre season games will change anything.

I've always liked Osman, decent little player to have around the squad and could do well in certain games for us, but shouldn't be guaranteed a starting place like he was in the past.

He actually gets in decent positions, absolutely infuriating that he strikes a ball like a 6 year old though.

Gets bullied off the ball too much in middle of park playing deeper though.

Personally would rather see him on the bench more often than not this season with better players such as Barkley breaking the first team.

..the push for Barklay continues, especially at the expense of Osman. I suspect the Barklay fans will be the first to complain if he ever gets a run of games and disappoints. My view is that Barklay's fleeting contributions would render him anonymous, especially in games where we are under the cosh. For me its Osman all the time and I'd be very surprised if RMs opinion is different to DMs.

Have to agree.

Ross looks a talent but I've seen nothing that suggests he should be starting.

Like the arsenal game? If we had a genuine option instead of Barklay, I'd be willing to accept a policy of him being a go to sub and occasional starter till he makes himself undroppable, which I believe he will. But that option isn't Osman who have been uber gash for 6 months now.

..its all a matter of opinion. Southampton (away) did a proper job on Osman but I think its unfair to say he was poor for 6 months. He makes the difficult look simple and is a true playmaker for us, taking the ball on the turn like only good players do. I was delighted with that glimpse of Barklay at Arsenal, but that's almost the only highlight I have had. There is no doubt that the boy has talent, but his impact at best is fleeting. He has been dropped from a poor U21 squad and failed to set the world alight against poor opposition in the U20 world cup. In his own age group against semi-pro's he got taken off because he wasn't able to go the pace. I'd be delighted to be proven wrong, but I'm not seeing anything to suggest he's up to starting.

In fairness that is the only time Moyes played him in that position all season, he looked the business and got dropped, if we really are a side with top four aspirations, we cant have the most dribbled past CM in the league as a regular starter, which is Osman
