In fairness that is the only time Moyes played him in that position all season, he looked the business and got dropped, if we really are a side with top four aspirations, we cant have the most dribbled past CM in the league as a regular starter, which is Osman

...fair point about it being his best position, but even in that area of the pitch players need to put in a shift, especially in Premiership games where we are under the cosh. Can't afford to carry passengers and I fear it would be the case with Barklay.

Osman simply doesn't put in enough decent performances to warrant a starting role. One wonder goal in 20 appearances just doesn't cut it for me.

The same can be said about Osman, he can go missing or games and just totally pass him by.

I do like Osman, but we need to move on from him being an automatic starter now.

And what's Barkley done?

Given the fact Moyes never really gave him a chance, not much. Yet. But even I can see that he's got a lot more to offer than Osman ever did. He's a lot stronger, for one thing, and won't get bullied off the ball by a breeze. Osman's been a passenger a helluva lot more than he's been a contributor.

He played a massive part all of last season, he was a key player who's form dipped in the last few months - injuries, fatigue, who knows. But it's never been as though we've been playing with 10 Men with him.

Barkley needs more games for me. Even a loan.

If Barcelona can send one of their best talents on loan to learn his craft, I don't see why we can't, rather than give him 20mins here or there.

That's the biggest problem with English players. Not enough competitive games.

..its all a matter of opinion. Southampton (away) did a proper job on Osman but I think its unfair to say he was poor for 6 months. He makes the difficult look simple and is a true playmaker for us, taking the ball on the turn like only good players do. I was delighted with that glimpse of Barklay at Arsenal, but that's almost the only highlight I have had. There is no doubt that the boy has talent, but his impact at best is fleeting. He has been dropped from a poor U21 squad and failed to set the world alight against poor opposition in the U20 world cup. In his own age group against semi-pro's he got taken off because he wasn't able to go the pace. I'd be delighted to be proven wrong, but I'm not seeing anything to suggest he's up to starting.

you just completely made that up.

With the departure of Neville and the apparently revamped Naismith Osman has moved up the ladder of passenger nr 1 in the team - he can still make a contribution on the attack against weak teams from the bench but defensively against top opposition he becomes Mr Invisible -
Give me Barkley or even Oviedo any day ahead of Osman as a starter this season and use Ossie as a spare when we are bossing the game

I like Leon Osman. He may not be a world beater but he's a good grafter with a little bit of skill. He's never been accused of going missing in a game.

No airs and graces from him, just an honest player.

I think there may be a flaw in comparing us directly to Barca
