Found it telling that in our best ever season in The Premier League (i.e. two years ago in Martinez's first season), Osman was the only Everton player to feature in all 38 league games.
He's not "top" class, never has been, but I've always seen him as a useful, intelligent, technical, versatile player. There were periods under Moyes where he played more than he should have done, but he remained (alongside Pienaar) the only player we had who could do something slightly out-of-the-ordinary around an opposition box. In fact, that arguably remains the case. I think Cleverley was bought as Osman's replacement.
Wouldn't try to argue he's one of our best players, but fulfils an underrated role IMO
Never understood the stick he gets. Hibbert, by all means, but Osman has been alright for us overall.
In literally every Everton side in my living memory there has been a player who a lot of fans didn't take to. Osman was the one for the last decade and Barry is arguably it at the moment.
