Let's discuss the center backs

It’s hard to judge them in some ways considering we spent most of games parking the bus, with 3 holding midfielders in front of them.

They've been made to work this season that is for sure. We didn't lose many by more than one goal either and considering the midfield and the constant pressure we were always under when defending for our lives. I think they've done pretty well.

We just need to get someone who will allow us too push up higher.

I can't argue if Carlo wants a new CB, especially if it's someone who can elevate us and be more of a leader for the club. But personally I would throw that money at a midfielder who can pass between the lines, as well as a good RB. Having someone who can control the tempo of the game from midfield and allow us to have more possession will elevate the team more than subbing out a CB. Godfrey with Holgate or Branthwaite as cover plus Mina with Keane as cover would be perfectly solid. Very curious to see what Brands/Carlo are thinking, because on paper it really isn't as much of a need.

We have 4 center backs expecting their share of first team football plus one who will want to start a few games. We might sell one but its the least problematic part of the team for me.

Good teams don't have flawless defenders but are set up to cover up those flaws.

Godfrey while still rough around the edges is the only definite one to keep
Mina is our best defender but injuries are a worry as is his contract length
His wages less so as he is our best CB
Keane is a lesser CB but rarely injured so there is value in that
Holgate has hit a ceiling and looks dodgy a lot of the time
I’d sell Holgate and one of Keane / Mina and bring in a top class CB who has a commanding presence plus another CB while we wait to evaluate Branthwaite’s progress
GIBSON I’m not sure on but I think his boat has sailed

I agree on the last part. CBs are all about partnerships that compliment each other

Mina - I'd keep and offer him a new deal, he's our best defender and would gamble on his fitness, I don't think we can get on any defenders better than he is.

Godfrey- keep, he's the desired partnership to play with Mina, and the added bonus he can fill in at full back.

Keane - keep, although limited he's 38 game a season in player, a decent defender with that kind of reliability we need in the team.

Holgate - he's had a bad season with some stinking games and shown some poor attitude at times. Another player who can fill in at full back and I'd be giving him another season to see if he can develop further.

Brainthwaite - think he could be a beast, he's huge and looked very composed when he played for us for such a young player. Blackburn seemed to like him to.
Think he needs another loan to a good championship side, or Germany.
Anywhere he will play most games at a decent level.

Gibson - seen nothing to suggest he will ever play for us, loan him I guess as he's not made an impact anywhere to be sold on for decent £££.
If he can have a good season on loan somewhere he might have some kind of sell value.

Overall I don't think we need to be shopping for centre backs, unless we get a deal for an obvious upgrade like a world class centre back.

Right back, wingers, centre midfielders, and a striker we need.

We don't need another centre back and generally I think we have seen they have done quite well this season. . Or there are other areas which are far more problematic.

The only scenario that I can think of where the manager wants to bring in an established big name and leader....a Koulibaly.
A statement signing, as much for the other players to look up to as for the fans.
I certainly would not rule that out completely but it will depend on what funds are available.

I think Keane has played his heart out this season. He likes to make his presence felt in the opposition box too. No way I'd sell him. Mina first, or Holgate.

And I want to see Branthwaite more next season.
