"Coq Hardi 44 place Général-de-Gaulle. In a prime position on the main square, you can people-watch whilst eating one of the salads at €6–7 or specialities of the region from the €14 menu. Also open for drinks outside of meal times."

Yes, Barbue d'Anvers is a nice place if you want to try local food and it's very close to the Grand' Place (Main Square) :

And they have another restaurant in Lille which is not very far :

And yes, Meert is very famous in Lille (like Fortnum & Mason in London) for their delicious pastries and waffles but it's expensive.
Another Lille's sweet specialty is "Les Merveilleux de Fred" :

They even used to open 2 shops in London some months ago.

Another good spot if you want to eat something is to go to "Rue de Gand" (Ghent Street). It's a beautiful street not very far away from the Main Square and there are dozens of restaurants (regional food, gascon food, italian, greek, moroccan, etc).

Where are the cheap places to eat mate ? I notice that Thursday is Market day so I suppose there'll be Baguettes with huge sausages ? or is that just in Normandy ?

I think the biggest problem for Evertonians in the stadium will be with the french police and with Lille stewards who are sometimes really annoying (especially with drunk people).

I know that most of the Everton fans are friendly but I dont' know if the french police knows it.

But in the contrary, when Aston Villa or Liverpool FC came in Lille some years ago, I've never heard about some troubles so I think maybe I'm a kind of a scandalmonger.

IMO, it will be a huge party for you in Lille.
