should we allow people to drink to a stage where they are so intoxicated they can't stand, walk or keep the contents of their stomachs in?
I hate this phrase "nanny state" to be honest, we need it because the majority of british people who go out drinking and clubbing are mindless morons.
These people need to be told what to do, and they are the ones who will accept it too.

Why do you always pigeon hole people?! I dont understand why every kind of person you speak about you generalise and label them. Most of this board are English/British and in one fell swoop you have called the 'majority' of us morons.
And still you are one person who thinks people will be impressed by how much you have drank during the course of posting- I dont get it Rob?!
I enjoy a drink and yes sometimes I get pretty wasted, but I dont get into fights I dont puke on the streets but I do go to clubs- Am I a moron?

in my experience of night clubs its the minority of us who can handle a drink and just go home afterwards.

The police have had to invent special task forces in every city up and down the country just because these morons insist on fighting, pissing, puking and generally behaving like animals.
Maybe its the minority of people then, but thats not my point whether its the minority or the majority.

This is a very fair point. Could we also mention that the people that sit up till the wee hours are normally on a drinking binge, hey, within this thread there have been claims of the drinking tally being currently acheived. I drink, I have a laugh, I have late nights, I don't puke up(too tight to waste anything), and I don't fight(no point, no fun) . Not having a go at you rob or anyone in particular before anyone starts crying, just pointing out that the people that normally spend time saying how they would set the world right are normally the ones sitting in getting wasted and probably end up too drunk to go out in the first place, or too wound up that they are the ones that end up causing the fights as their inter personal skills need a good looking at. Yes, there are morons about, but this could be down to the fact that parents don't discipline kids through their growth and allow them to teach themselves on the streets. Back to that nanny culture state again. People complain there is no discipline on the streets yet they are probably the ones that voted against being able to discipline people the proper way. Words just don't cut it I am afraid.

I have NEVER been in a fight, not even at school.
I have NEVER puked in the street, never pissed etc etc.
I was once sat in a bar with my best mate and this pissed bloke was propping up the bar when this young lad accidently nudged into him ever so slightly, the lad turned round and said, sorry mate!
Yeh, the pissed bloke twatted him right round the head with a right hand....
How about all alcoholic beverages can only be bought with a drinks card, and if you get in any [Poor language removed], like fighting or everything else that has been mentioned, then ur card can be banned or limited.
I'd love that.

[Poor language removed] hell, no-one likes mindless fighting, but the occasional bloke pissing in the street because the concept of public toilets no longer exists - so what? The occasional person vomiting after loads of drink - so what?

There's no point even mentioning the drugs debate, as I think I know where a majority of you stand.
England has produced some of the most creative minds, cultural phenomenons, music, art, engineering, technology, architecture and literature. It's all been done in a spirit of freedom, not restriction. Afghanistan has had shai law for many years - and the only afghanistan contribution (al qaieda apart) to human culture globally has been hypocritically - heroin.
We need less laws, not more. Perhaps more ethics, but when the gap between the rich and the poor gets to the stage it is now, a yawning chasm, - how do the gilded politicians expect the poor to behave?

But when I've seen like all of you have probably seen such incidents of fighting and blokes getting really badly hurt when all they wanted to do was have a good night out its just not right.
I do go out and get wasted too, but like I said I've never been in a fight but always feel unsafe because others can be sparked into attacking you for no reason.

lets have a vote on people who fight after a night out regularly, because I know they exist I used to work with a few, one who bragged his proudest moment was punching a police officer.....
how do I expect the poor to behave? well, stopping kicking ten lumps of [Poor language removed] out of each other would be a start.
