LOTR on prime

Don't mean this in a condescending way.... I liked the movies when that came out 20 yrs ago or so when I was 12. I'm sure the books are great but I pretty much only read nonfiction history, so I've never dedicated the time to them.

I was not even aware they were making something on Amazon Prime for them. I usually enjoy the cinematography, sets, the natural landscapes they use in these "fantasy" (is the the genre isn't almost all TV fantasy?) movies and shows.

I'm terrified of flying. I can deal with it to get Europe or Cali from NY. I don't think I'll ever make it to NZ so these shows do it for me.

Do people generally have high expectations for this?

Don't mean this in a condescending way... but was you high when you typed all this? It's a bit all over the place.

Is there a thread for this? If not anyone interested in it? Loved LOTR both books and films and am excited to see what they do with this.

The stories are fabulous even if the movies are extreme almost to the point of boredom. But the story lends itself to a series, it could be great if don’t Peter Jackson the whole thing.

They've gone woke, and while I haven't seen the show, what's been released so far is cringe and doesn't bode well. Amazon released a 'Superfans' video, and it was pulled almost instantly. I"m not building my hopes up for this one, I saw the Superfans show and it was beyond awful, an absolute cringe fest! Pretty much everything I've seen that's gone woke has been awful, so I'm not looking forward to this one.

Interesting, because pretty much everyone I’ve seen who’s said things have “gone woke” has been awful.

I cba with this narrative because they've casted a few black and asian people in Middle Earth, as long as they're decent actors it won't ruin anything for me. The Wheel of Time fan base had a portion who kicked off over that too and the actors were fine it was just a crap production that rewrote the books for TV. As long as the story and production quality is worth the money they've put into this and fits with what Peter Jackson established already then it will be great.

Someone here I think said they don't have the rights to the Simarillion so I'm not entirely sure exactly what this story is going to be if it's not actually something Tolkien wrote. After seeing the liberties taken and crap production value with Wheel of Time I am worried they could do the same here but I'm still optimistic until I see it.

My only issue with things like this is that there is absolutely no need when it doesn't make logical sense for the tale.

Same thing happened on The Sandman; they've race swapped and gender swapped majority of the characters but funnily enough, not a single Asian. At what point does it stop looking like they're only casting people to fill a quota?
