LOTR on prime

I cba with this narrative because they've casted a few black and asian people in Middle Earth, as long as they're decent actors it won't ruin anything for me. The Wheel of Time fan base had a portion who kicked off over that too and the actors were fine it was just a crap production that rewrote the books for TV. As long as the story and production quality is worth the money they've put into this and fits with what Peter Jackson established already then it will be great.

Someone here I think said they don't have the rights to the Simarillion so I'm not entirely sure exactly what this story is going to be if it's not actually something Tolkien wrote. After seeing the liberties taken and crap production value with Wheel of Time I am worried they could do the same here but I'm still optimistic until I see it.
Loved the Wheel of Time books but the show is pretty awful. Nothing to do with the casting though. Your description of "liberties taken and crap production" sum it up better than I could. I fear for the new stuff if that's the benchmark.

I don’t think they have the rights to the Silmarillion. I believe they’ve used the appendices from the LOTR as the source material.

At the end of the day there's actually no chuffin difference between so called races ! We are all so closely related that there's not much to differentiate from, apart from our own very personal perspective of colour.
So as long as there's a good story to be had I'll give it a go!

Yeah, basically they dont have rights to anything, so are pretty much just making a loose original story.

I don't have high hopes for this, there is just something about the trailer that screens "we have this here money cow, and we be milking it"
Disney really haven't helped my expectations by turning out all these awful Star Wars shows (which should have all been awesome, but instead made on a budget of $10.50 yet making mega-bank because of brand recog)

Have I reached the bitter and cynical stage of life? Crap........

Hi, welcome to the forum, you must be new mate, let me show you around.
Thanks, I’ll take the tour later, but in the meantime it was worth clarifying because it’s really not difficult to find people who moan about “wokeness” who would think that was an entirely valid zinger

I'm sure it'll be a very fun and entertaining series. I'm also equally sure that it'll be Tolkien related in only the loosest possible sense. Characters and places and the odd event will share names from Tolkien's world but that's where the similarities will end. So if you're looking and hoping for a faithful adaptation of Tolkien's work and world then imo you're better off just giving it a miss altogether. However, if you accepted this show for what it is (basically just another generic fantasy show with a colossal budget that's using the Tolkien name for branding purposes) as I have, you may well enjoy it.

I've got some fairly high hopes for this series considering the budget they've spent. It's always going to be compared to the movie trilogy - so it has some big shoes to fill.

Same with the new Game of Thrones House of the Dragon series coming out later this month, I'm hoping they've done a solid job. I'm about half way through the book this series covers - decided to give up on the main series of books just over half way through. I can't carry on knowing there's no ending written yet!

The trailer for the new GOT looked very iffy to me. That said, I’ll still give it a chance as Paddy Considine is in it and he’s usually a great watch in and of himself…

I tried to watch Amazon Wheel of Time last year and it was absolutely awful and boring (personal opinion) and i quit it after first 3 episodes. Not to mention it looked cheap as hell despite reportedly having massive budget.

Witcher was also kinda meh, even my sister who is big fan of the books quit it.

Definitely got high hopes for House of the Dragon simply because of the HBO, this guys shy of nothing. Though i read the book its based on (Dance of the Dragons) and it gonna be a lot of iffy stuff for general audience, particularly incest galore

There's no chance GRRM finishes the series, and the last two were bad anyhow, so you might have put it down for good.
Best thing that could happen is he gets a co-writer on board who knows how to put pen to paper. Most writers would be understandably resistant to that idea, but it's an unusually high profile series so maybe something can happen there. He clearly hates writing it at this point.
