2020/21 Lucas Digne

If Digne/Richarlison want to play Champions League football - then they need to swerve the red mist / daft decision making and play the game like the top players do.

James doesnt scythe people down or stand on someone's achilles, likewise he'll be the first to go down in the box if he is fouled - thats what you need to do to be a winner in todays game sadly.

Too many of our players need to learn the Dark arts and fast.

Robertson did worse than Digne last week.

He's won a Champions League and Premier League title.

I get what you're saying, but in this instance, he's tried to slow down. He should have just kicked him, and actually committed the foul and got a booking. Totally agree.

But the foul today had nothing to do with being rash. He was trying to avoid a foul and, ultimately, committed one in doing so.

It shouldn't have been a red but I get why it was and am very doubtful that it'll be overturned.

For me it was intentional and he had saw red otherwise why lift your arms up BEFORE he actually touched him? Others will disagree and fair enough only Digne knows if he meant it or not but if it was one of theirs we would have been demanding a red and rightfully so imo.

If the players calmed down and saw the bigger picture we would let these games be one offs whereas it seems like whenever we aint playing well one of our players loses it and gets sent off.

People will say im being OTT but whats happens if we do that in the cup quarter final or a 6 pointer match for a CL spot towards the end of the season?

I've seen enough from the last two games and games last season when the likes of Schneiderlin would get sent off when the going got tough to argue there is a mentality problem still at the club - even Pickford nearly getting sent off and giving that lot a penalty and possibly going 2 up in 5 minutes in a merseyside derby.

Pretty obvious it wasn’t intentional. He was slowing down, put his arms up to avoid fouling, kept in his normal stride, and was immediately apologizing once it happened.

Intelligence is part of the game. Having a cool, calculating brain - even in stressful situations - is a competitive advantage on the football pitch. Richarlison and Digne couldn't be accused of having too much of that over the last week. There's no point people saying "if we keep our first XI on the pitch we'll have a great season." The reality is we WON'T keep our first XI on the pitch much more than 15 times this season due to injury and, especially, if we throw crazy, preventable suspensions into the mix.

Both players should be quietly, but firmly, encouraged to cry off the upcoming internationals. Why should the club have them risk further absence or tiredness when they have been so cavalier with their availability for the club this week? This might encourage them to use their brains next time out.

If you watch it back, and it was clear at the time, he's trying to slow down. He's trying to back away from something like that happening and, ultimately, it still happened.

He did have a niggle at him before which was the attempted trip, imo.

Anyway, it's happened now and it's right that it's cost us moving forward.

I'm less worried about Nkounkou coming in, weirdly, than I was about losing Richarlison, though.

Digne has been great. Today was his first off day. But without Richarlison we're half the side that we are when he's in it.

Neglecting going for another quality option to rotate with him and Dom has already been shown up to be the mistake people feared it would be.

Whether it was intentional or not -he got a red card. After all the furore carried over from last week did nobody see that ,no matter what that we were going to have a man sent off this week? Imo it was a nailed on certainty!. We know that the "favoured" clubs will get away with this kind of decision, but we are not a "favoured" club and it really gives credence to the feeling that there is an agenda against us. These bans are going to hurt us , as this isn't going to be rescinded .Our players need to be extra careful now because the slightest indiscression will be siezed upon. We were going to lose some time , so to still be top is a bonus. Let's not give any more opportunities out to be punished.

If he would have stopped running and let him go the same people having a go at him about the red card would have been having a go at him regarding his commitment for stopping. You can’t win sometimes.

I think Nkounkou will slot in and do a good job. It might even give Ancelotti a bit of food for thought in playing him further forward when Digne comes back if he impresses.

Not going back through pages and pages of comment.

We'd be daft to appeal the card. Not a chance it's getting overturned.

Carlo is right, the hysteria could well have influenced K. Friend and whoever was on VAR watch.

It doesn't mean they will admit the officials may have got it wrong.

Digne didn’t look himself yesterday, I don’t know if it was mentioned but apparently him & Godfrey had a collision during the warm up which seen him get hurt, I don’t know if that impacted his performance.

He’s played every game this season, including for his International team, his injury for France didn’t look good and he wasn’t given time to fully recover from that really either, I think a spell on the side might do his body good tbh.

After sleeping on it and watching it again, I was definitely wrong about any kind of intent. That being said I still think it was, at the very kindest, clumsy. I still think its a red and I don't think its gonna be rescinded, not a chance they go against the ref and VAR.

If he was going to make the cynical foul he could have done it clean and if he wanted to win the ball back then the only way you do that cleanly is by going round the side, not running directly behind the man with the ball. I'm guessing he's got more on him than he wanted to with a professional foul that he tried to disguise as a tangle of legs. Its such a pointless sending off that is really gonna cost us despite having Nkounkou.
