no way in hell that gets overturned. really nasty tackle. his hands are up before he makes contact so he knows he's too close. why then does he put his foot down and ride on his foot? idiot

His hands are up because they nearly came together just before that. Digne's put them up to say 'no contact' and, in doing so as he tries to slow down, has stepped on Walker-Peters' Achilles.

It's awkward but in no way was it 'really nasty'. The players are literally running at full speed within half a foot of each other.

He should have just tugged him back and got the booking, but it's another matter entirely.

If it was given as a booking at the time there’s no way anyone would’ve made a fuss. Wouldn’t have even made it onto motd etc.
Won’t get the ban lifted though now, we’re not very popular amongst the media and officials, easier for them to leave it

i don't think you step on someone like that if you are senstiive to the fact you are already too close. that sort of step on happens innicently when the stepper is oblivious, not the case here.

Look where Digne is looking. He's not looking down.

I'm not saying KWP engineered the contact. It's just an awkward coming together.

KWP's main focus was at first berating Digne, then he remembered he needed to act hurt.

There was absolutely no intent from Digne to do that.

.....i thought it accidental at the time and expected a yellow but I accept the red given the nature of contact and Digne might have taken more care when chasing his opponent.

The anomalies come when comparing to similar situations, more specifically the crude way Luke Shaw took out a player he was chasing and received a yellow.

Tbf Dermott will nearly always find a way of becking the ref, even in some instances contradicting the very reasons he gave as justification in a similar incident just a few weeks ago.

If there's a way, any way possible, Dermott will find that way to back his mates, and where it's absolutely impossible, he'll wrap it up with so many mitigating reasons you almost end up thinking how on earth could we have expected them to get it right anyway.

I think they've got next to no chance if it being overturned, not least because of what's gone on in the media all last week, a waste of time appealing tbh. To think they'll take this decision and not be influenced is ridiculously naive imo.

I'm surprised at the debate over this one.

For me it's a clear red. I highly doubt Digne meant the challenge to be that bad, but my guess is he would have been hoping there'd be a tangle of legs to bring him down.

Unfortunately it was bad though and the player is lucky to escape serious injury. When you're chasing someone directly from behind like that you've got to be really careful not to rake their ankles. That's the gamble you take in that position and unfortunately it backfired badly.
