2020/21 Lucas Digne

Not gonna discuss whether he intended it or not, it's a red and i hope the suspension gets reduced to one game.

Other than that, Digne was absolutely terrible yesterday. His worst game for us that i can recall.

He put in almost double digit crosses and they were all crap. Granted, i think a few decisions we made by not playing him in on the overlap (courtesy of Siggy and Iwobi) made his job worse, but he was definetly a big part of the let-down yesterday.

If you watch it back, and it was clear at the time, he's trying to slow down. He's trying to back away from something like that happening and, ultimately, it still happened.

He did have a niggle at him before which was the attempted trip, imo.

Anyway, it's happened now and it's right that it's cost us moving forward.

I'm less worried about Nkounkou coming in, weirdly, than I was about losing Richarlison, though.

Digne has been great. Today was his first off day. But without Richarlison we're half the side that we are when he's in it.

Neglecting going for another quality option to rotate with him and Dom has already been shown up to be the mistake people feared it would be.

Exactly.

I'll always bring up the Son incident against Gomes. Completely the same situation. However, Son goes for a second bite and engages a tackle which leads to the dislocation of a player's foot. His red card is overturned and everyone in the media says this was a correct decision.

So when Digne doesn't even attempt to tackle or endanger an opponent but is sent off, how are people even arguing that it shouldn't be rescinded?

I thought it was criminally unprofessional.

He is prone to brain farts and anyone with half a brain would have avoided a tackle from behind that went high.

A defo red card. It is a pity as he makes half the goals in the team.

It's not violent conduct, though. So it should get reduced to one game. It won't do, but it should be reduced.

The fact Son had his card rescinded for an actual horrible ankle-breaking lunge should be at the top of our list.

It's for serious foul play, the same as Richarlison. It's still a 3 game ban and I think there is absolutely no chance of it being rescinded. It was not deliberate but it was extremely clumsy. I'm not sure there is anything in the rules to reduce bans from 3 to 1. A 1 game ban is for 2 yellows or a professional foul/handball stopping a clear scoring opportunity.

True. The hope is we can prove it clearly wasn't intentional (anyone in their right mind can see that).

But the officials will likely stand by the refs.

People will use the Pickford one as an example but it's different as Van Dijk was offside, and unless it's violent conduct, then Pickford could not be retrospectively punished.

I’m not sure how stepping on someone’s heel whilst running can be considering serious foul play.

It could’ve ended badly, because of the way it got caught and It looked worse than it was because his foot got stuck.

But defo not foul play however you look at it imho.

Thank goodness some one on here thinks like me. If they look properly at the video they can see it was just an accident.

After the Derby though referees are scared of being criticised so jumped to a straight red. It is a witch hunt. Glad the club are going to appeal. Let us now see if the FA are also part of the witch hunt.

Of course it was an accident but they won't rescind it because they will say it was clumsy. He had almost stood on him 10 yards before as well so it probably was clumsy. I don't see any chance of it being rescinded I'm afraid.

Glad Anchelotti said we will appeal. Clumsy at worst. Should be overturned but in the current climate have we used all our luck?
