2021/22 Lucas Digne

Says in todays gossip column on BBC that Chelsea are interested in Hernandez at Milan, can’t see Milan letting him go at this stage of the season.

Chelsea is an obvious place for Digne to go, plus the lad gets to play CL football so good move for him too.

Benitez said that Digne ruled himself out with illness, and Digne didn't deny it. Unless we're being conspiratorial, we can assume that this is true then. Digne is the one pushing for an exit.
That'll definitely be partly down to Rafael, but I'd say it's more down to Everton as a club not keeping up with assurances in terms of club progression. He wants to start for France at the world cup, playing for Chelsea in the champions league would make that very likely.

Digne is the one pushing for an exit ?

Do you know something the rest of us dont , or is that speculation.

My speculation is Benitez is forcing him out , he's the one with history for it.

I think it's clear Digne's agent has lined up some "upward" moves for him, and Benitez is happy to cash in on him.
What we do know is that Digne ruled himself out with injury. This was put out there by Benitez and Digne's party didn't deny it.

Either this was started by Digne looking for an exit in Jan, and RB responding to this information by excluding him
Or RB decided to exclude him first (due to personal difference or poor form) and then Digne started looking for an exit

It kinda doesn't matter though does it? It's clearly happening, and it looks like he's being replaced. I would want to keep Digne long-term, but we need to get used to the idea of selling our best players over the next few years. What matters is if we manage to replace them adequately.

We were never keeping Digne until retirement. That just wasn’t happening with a player of his profile. So he was going to leave at some point for a profit. That’s how we have to operate as a club. Richarlison and probably DCL will also go at some point. That’s how all clubs apart from perhaps City Madrid and Barcelona operate. Even PSG are under pressure to sell Mbappe because he thinks Madrid are a step up.

We’ve always had an unnatural aversion to selling our good players, all clubs do it though. We’ve actually kept hold of ours a lot longer than most. Since selling Lukaku Stones Barkley, the only first team player we’ve really sold is Gueye and that was for a very good price. Most other mid table clubs would have had Digne Richarlison DCL Docuoure out the door after a season or two to bigger clubs.

Thing with this is that were not selling for a profit, we're (well Benitez is) forcing him out.

Some feel it's a masterstroke in FFP skullduggery by the Spanish Tactical Genius...others think he's a tit for doing it after the lad signed a new deal, was happy here.

Think it's different when another team actively want your players rather than us practically transfer listing them.

The aversion to selling comes from our complete inability to recruit properly. Why would people want to see sales when they don't trust us to reinvest well.

Plus selling your best players rarely works. Lots of our recent problems go back to the day Lukaku was sold.
