2021/22 Lucas Digne

This whole Digne situation sums up just what a mess this club is in. We've gone from being relatively well covered at Left Back (at the start of the season) and having no decent right back option, to bombing out various left back options, spending any money we did have on a position that was not a priority and using a past his sell back right in a left wing back role. Utter utter madness.

Not fuming, just fact, it’s not happening. I couldn’t care less about Digne. With so many of here wetting their knickers over this, it’s hard to tell who’s serious and who isn’t
Just to counter your point though. Going forward if we want to be competitive, we absolutely need a better standard of sub. All the big sides have 2 good players in most positions, that allows them to rotate. So for me £20m is nothing and we should be aiming for it if we want to get better.

Not playing him when he uses a formation that suits him and playing an out of form Coleman there is the very definition of cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Digne doesnt suit 5 at the back.

On the contrary. Being on the bench may have been the compromise:

Imagine Digne doesn’t want to play in case he gets injured.

Well if he’s not in the squad, buyers know that we’re desperate to sell.

So we tell him to show his face on the bench, go out to warm up. That keeps his value from falling too much, whilst keeping him from injury ahead of his inevitable move.

Precisely. Hard to understand why others arent seeing this.

We ain’t having a 20mil back up left back, he’s gone

Unless we play both Digne and Mykolenko going 3 at the back with a wing back :o lol

We dont have european football to keep players happy...also need to progress in cups to enable them to get games by rotating.

Not only do we need the Digne fee for FFP, we also need his wages off the books.

Yes of course, but you will probably find only the big 6 will have cover in every position. And most won’t have similar quality in every position.

Then you have the likes of Leicester and West Ham. Who may have quality back up in some positions and not in others. Centre mid Amd striker for West Ham. They lose rice, soucek and Antonio. They would fall down the league imo.

We should be in a similar position at this moment to Leicester & West Ham unfortunately we’ve bought so poorly the likes of iwobi, isn’t a good enough back up, neither is Gomes in midfield or Holgate at CB.

Moving forward we need to get to that level where after our first 11. We have a quality back up striker, winger, midfielder, CB, Full back. 16/17 very good players and youngsters and maybe the odd loan to fill the squad out. Until you get regular European football including champions league football. I don’t think we can expect to have 20mil back up all over the place

its called having a squad.

Digne is worth nothing on the market it seems.

I wouldnt worry about Benitiez, he will gone within a couple of months.

We have a 32yr old donkey as back up CF. A free transfer and a homegrown 20yr old as back up wingers.
It’s unlikely at this stage we’re having a 20mil back up left back

stop saying he's a 20m left back - no one is paying that for him

He has about as much open market value as Iwobi

Which is why I said going forward. We are quite a way off that at the moment and no Europe like zat says. But if we want to get to where we want to go, we need better players in the first team so the current players are on the bench. If we continue to buy Rondons, we'll never get anywhere. So going forward.
