I’m almost certainly giving our higher ups too much credit for forethought, but given I don’t think the outburst will hurt our negotiating position, I think we may have done it as a (vulgar) display of power by Benitez. If the player wants off anyway, and we’re not going to shoot ourselves in the foot over cash, why not put the spin on it that Benitez is in charge and won’t tolerate players who don’t want to run through proverbial brick walls for him?

If that is the case I think it’s a bit clumsy, but it’s my best guess.
Like I say, we'll find out in the next 24 days.

He had been sold for 13 ,15 and 18 mill we paid. And 2 loans. I don’t see us getting any where near the 30 mill being touted. However if a few premier league club are genuinely interested we should get back at least what we paid.

I just want him out.

He'll no doubt punish the club by leaving it till the last 24 hours though....that's the cut of the feller.
He owes us nothing, he’s an employee, he’s give a good few years. It’s not football as it was no more where clubs are proper clubs, fighting to get by. So what if he wants the best deal for him self the whole game is full of mercenaries, from owners all the way down to youth team players.

Loyalty and the game we loved is gone.

It’s a franchise now love it or hate it that’s what it is.

Why would he do a favour to a club that charges hard working mums and dads 80 quid to buy their 5 year old kid a kit to watch their team. Sorry mate but no.

Hope he bleeds us dry then goes to Newcastle and relegates us with a free-kick Mykolenko gives away

(I really don't want this to happen, obviously, and it won't do. I just needed to vent, because I hate this club at the minute)

I’m not his rep as it happens, I can’t answer that. Why not hear what he has to say himself? If he wants to go for it I’m sure he will.

So in the interim at least we cleared up the difference between libel and slander for you ?

If it were me and the manager was saying I dont want to play and want to leave and it was untrue I'd want it put right, tbh.

I doubt he will...and that will tell it's own story.

Players once free of their former club sometimes reveal their side of any dispute that led to their leaving. I imagine few would do it whilst still employed, unless they as stupid as Lukaku for example. He has had to apologise to Chelsea and their manager and has made himself look foolish or worse.

If he hasn't said a word he can sue this manager for libel...
All the manager has said is that he has asked to leave. That isn't libel or defamation of character. I think we can assume it's true.

Benitez has not once said that Digne refused to play. I can only assume, as he's been so willing to say everything else about the matter, that Digne has therefore not refused to play, as Benitez would have said so.

He owes Everton a hige favour. He was an irrelevance discarded by Barcelona; his career was resurrected here, and he's refused to play for the club. I'd say he owes Everton a lot.

But I can see you'd rather take his side.
