Interestingly though if Villa were the ones signing Patterson, Mykolenko and we were signing a near 29 yr old for over £20 million & Coutinho on loan our fans would be moaning about not learning mistakes from recent years etc.

Devil’s advocate a bit but if we had signed Coutinho on loan and were moving on to sign a left back who is turning 29 soon also on massive wages we’d be saying that the club hadn’t learned any lessons. Villa are doing exactly what we all want Everton to stop doing.

City haven't seemingly come back in for him, which given they were very interested last season is a surprise.

Chelsea were always only ever going to offer a loan I think. Because they held all the cards. No European club can afford to pay £25m right now for a LB.

As long as it's closer to 25 than 20 it's not all bad. We've made money on him and Villa will have a £150k P/W and 29 year old LB on a five year deal.

Fancy allowing one of the best left backs in the league to go to a rival team 3 places above you when you are heading to a relegation battle and all because of a stubborn archaic manager who would go as far as selling someone than have that someone dare criticise his methods.
