This is very true.

It is, but then you have to dicuss that in the context of their wider transfer business which as far as I can see has been shrewd with a decent amount of youth.

The reason we are sick of our own transfer activity is because these sorts of deals were the only thing we did.

Interestingly though if Villa were the ones signing Patterson, Mykolenko and we were signing a near 29 yr old for over £20 million & Coutinho on loan our fans would be moaning about not learning mistakes from recent years etc.

Any other signings this window I hope we bring in more hungry younger players with a point to prove.

But Villa are doing business that will ensure their status in the Premier League, we are doing business as if we are preparing for life in the Championship.

I don't think anybody is saying this is massively bad business for Everton.

it's the manner it's happened in

and I'm sorry, it's why it's happened too. Like I said, this proves Digne just doesn't want to play for Benitez. Ask yourself why that is when the lad has never had any history of falling out with managers.

And before you suggest it's because they let him get away with stuff, he's worked under:

Carlo Ancelotti
Rudi Garcia (a complete nut case btw when it comes to discipline), at Lille and Roma
Lucian Spalletti (see above, a very pragmatic too)
Laurent Blanc
Didier Deschamps
Luis Enrique
Ernesto Valverde

Not one shred of evidence that he's fallen out with any of them.

All about those clubs having money.

City haven't seemingly come back in for him, which given they were very interested last season is a surprise.

Chelsea were always only ever going to offer a loan I think. Because they held all the cards. No European club can afford to pay £25m right now for a LB.
City haven't come in for him because Pep knows top level players and Lucas Digne is not one of them.

they're doing business to go for Europe. If they don't get Europe, they'll not sign Coutinho.

People are making out like Digne is finished. He's also not 29 'soon', he's 29 in June. That's half the season people are just disregarding to make themselves feel better.

I agree with this approach but don’t have confidence in our ability to execute

I've just listed the managers he's worked under. Some of the most successful managers of the last 10 years.

Pep and City both wanted Digne last season. They're going to go for a LB in the summer apparently. They probably will look to shift Zinchenko before they do.
