Let's not forget that Gerrard effectively blocked out move for Patterson, but Benitez more than happy to help his pal and former Captain with a cut price deal for one of our best assets.

Don't get it twisted mate, he's not doing it to help Gerrard out, he's just endearing himself further with his kopite followers.

Ruin Everton amd sell their players below market value to Steeeeeevieeee Gerrraaaarrrrrrrrrd in the process. Making us a laughing stock.

Devil’s advocate a bit but if we had signed Coutinho on loan and were moving on to sign a left back who is turning 29 soon also on massive wages we’d be saying that the club hadn’t learned any lessons. Villa are doing exactly what we all want Everton to stop doing.
Pretty much sums it up perfectly for me....

I’m sorry but this slob is selling one of our best players to his former captain

WHAT?
It isn’t tin foil hat stuff to call him agent Rafael at this point. Got to be getting at least £25m too.

Digne is a very good full back and we’re selling him to a rival. I would’ve been fine with Chelsea or Napoli but Villa? Not having that. Watch him spend £10m on Longstaff now.

If they wanted Digne they would’ve signed him.
Yeah that's fair, if they wanted him that badly, they could have done. But there was interest. He's not a bad player. People can tell themselves he is if it makes them feel better.

I think if we get £25m, all things considered given how it's been handled, it's not a bad deal.

All about those clubs having money.

City haven't seemingly come back in for him, which given they were very interested last season is a surprise.

Chelsea were always only ever going to offer a loan I think. Because they held all the cards. No European club can afford to pay £25m right now for a LB.

Yeah I get that, just can't imagine it's the move he was hoping for

It's all the same goal. Worming his way into Kopite affection.

If it were Brands that had publicly shamed the player then sold him at this price, the usual suspects would be incredulous.

Player/manager spat aside, this fee is as much about the accounts as anything. Aint nice, but modern footie aint.

We’ve basically swapped Digne for 2 younger international full backs so far this window, in hindsight it’s not the worst bit of business.

He leaves under a cloud though, all due to Benitez

If Villa sign Bissouma as well they will have a very solid squad.

Ings
Watkins
Bissouma
Bailey
Coutinho
Martinez
Digne
Cash

Some good players there.

Shows the importance of solid recruitment - criminal the money we've pissed up the wall in recent years.

Be a long time to fix this club/squad.

Surely Bissouma can do better than Villa?I would take DCL, Rich and Gray over Ings, Watkins and the injury prone Bailey. Villa have better Fullbacks and more energy in CM and both teams have poor CB’s. They play a more positive front foot style of football. We are closely matched hence the 3 point gap but they have the feel good factor and momentum

Said it at the start of the year but Villa are still mirroring our first Moshiri years. Bloating the wage bill on players that don't push them to the next level. Digne must've surely thought he'd have better suitors than them but his massive contract is an anchor

He’s not a bad player no, he isn’t good enough for Man City though. If you think I’m saying this to “make myself feel better” you can check out my thoughts on his performances from last season’s thread as well as this before he was binned off.
