Looks like he's getting a 3 & a half year deal if you read the article:huh:

That's what I got out of it as well...

Signing him until July 2013 - He'll be 35, but he seems to be in fairly good shape so should be ok, possibly reverting to centreback more often if his pace goes completely...

Sorry if this has already been posted but footballnews is quoting Socceroos sources:

Everton has agreed terms with Socceroo defender Lucas Neill. The former Blackburn Rovers and West Ham defender Lucas Neill joins Everton on a free transfer.

The signing of Neill will go some way to solving Everton's defensive crisis following a knee injury to Phil Neville which has resulted in the captain facing what the club describe as a "lengthy lay-off".

Everton face AEK Athens in the Europa League on Thursday night and Moyes is without a recognised right back as Neville is injured, Tony Hibbert is suspended and new signing Johhny Heitinga is not eligible.

Neill is likely to be rushed into the Everton lineup and could make his debut against former club Blackburn on the weekend.

An unnamed source within the Socceroo camp confirmed Neill had agreed terms with Everton, much to the relief of both the player and Socceroo coach Pim Verbeek. The Socceroos will be on their way to South Africa for the 2010 World Cup Finals in less than 9 months time. With the Socceroos lacking in depth, a fit Lucas Neill is a critical cog in Verbeek's team

Haven't we gone past the registration deadline for the Europa League so Neill won't be able to play either? At least until the next one in January

One more Evertonian to support at the World Cup as well - Could have 11 men there!..

So far we've got Cahill, Pienaar, Yobo, Yakubu (presumably), Howard and Heitinga.

Hopefully Bilyaletdinov as long as Russia get through and Jagielka, Baines and Distin if they hit form towards the end of the season and others are injured.

Yep, signing for league games only till Jan. so Hibbo's our European RB only

Was impressed with Gosling at RB the other week, plus given the size of our squad and the fact he has been given a first team shirt number I'm assuming that Coleman's been registered for the Europa.

We've got the 3 of them, should be more than capable.

Asked my mate who's a mad WHU season ticket holder exactly what type of player he is and what can he offer us.

He said that hes a good solid no-nonsense RB, overlapping and getting crosses in are not his bag, and that he does have a tendancy too lose concentration in the box and gets skinned all too easily by wide speed merchants....(Is this Tony Hibbert in disguise?)

Not one to set hearts a racing but given the paper thin nature of our squad anyone new is welcome..bit of a shambles the club have allowed the squad to grow so small that we have to look around the non contract players when we get hit with an injury:blink:

To be fair, Neil isn't the typical out-of-contract player. He is actually a decent player.

And I am not sure how anyone can judge him with regards to his wages. He was offered significantly more money to play for West Ham than to play for the [Poor language removed]. Which would you take???? West Ham were a better option in the fact that they weren't Liverpool.

Think about it.....80k a week at West Ham, or 40k a week at THE KOPITES or stay at the declining Blackburn?

The only thing that gets me is that if he gets £40k, this is another 2 million per year, plus image rights etc for his wages, and we hummed and harred over a million and lost out on Naughton, who would have cost considerably less in wages.
