Lukaku - A Fond Farewell

A fantastic player and a joy to watch at times. He absolutely steamrolled teams when he was on form and was unstoppable.

He's always been fiercely ambitious and I have no problem with him leaving, but I wish he'd kept his feelings about his future etc. to himself as the misery merchants will no doubt use that as a stick to beat him with whenever he returns.

I can see it now, Andy, Robbo and Stevo standing in the Lower Gwladys with their blood shot venom filled eyes, phlegm flying in all directions through their decayed teeth, screaming all sorts of obscenities at the greatest player we've had in the last 30 years. It's such a shame.

Good luck Rom, and thanks for the memories.

Are Andy, Robbo and Stevo from the peninsula by any chance ?

His attitude to the club started off as 'tolerant' and never went above that. Always think the longer a player is with us then they start to 'get us', even took Koeman some time to say the right things, but Lukaku never did.
Some say he was honest about his ambitions, but to further those ambitions you have to have passion as well as self belief and we only saw self belief that was tainted with an arrogance towards the club.
He scored goals, but then not many others did as a consequence. Everton is a team, not a one man band and he displayed an attitude that he was doing us a favour for playing for us. Pfft.
I think he believes he has it made now, greater adulation at a 'bigger' club, with 'better' supporters, but they are just a breath away from the other bellwhiffs across the park.
I don't think he was ready for that move and I don't think utd are prepared for his personality. He really 'ain't all that'.
We'll be better for him gone.

He's dead to me. I don't think he'd be happy in a side where he's not the main focus - which actually has me wondering how well the United project will go for him. Clearly Koeman wasn't comfortable relying on that large a percentage of goals from one person, and planned to change that this year.

He was clearly the best striker we've had in my time, and thank you for the goals, but could care less now.

This I reckon is the future truth!

This is a great post mate and very astute.

I never felt Rom got us and that never changed over time. We made an honest arrangement with a lad and knew inevitably he would leave. We did well to keep him 1 final season and eek out another 30 million.

I also agree with you re United. He will have to deal with pressure that's he's not known at Everton. They will not be as forgiving of his inconsistencies.

I'm not sure how he will get on. As I say I sense it may go the Andy Cole way. He will score goals but frustrate them and be moved on in 2-3 years.
