Lukaku - A Fond Farewell

How has a player contributing 70 odd goals 'undermined' us?

He stated often enough that he wanted success here and preferably to stay put here.

I'd say Moshiri's parsimony last summer made up Lukaku's mind to go. And the spending this summer is only because Lukaku is getting sold for £90M.

He spoke **** about wanting away in every interview he ever did when away from Everton. I didn't want him to go, but he did. He never really respected Everton, he always thought he was better than us.

He did undermine us at times Dave. It's stupid to deny it, and I'm not one who has ever thought that actually detracted from Lukaku.

He'll be missed. A great striker and he's given us a very good four years. He has his limitations but he's still young. I think he'll do very well at United.

But stop trying to lay this elsewhere, fgs, it's so weird that you have such an agenda.

The player wanted out. It doesn't make him the bad guy, we've made a very nice profit on him and that's all well and good.

A shame we couldn't have more success during his time here.

Did I love Lukaku .. no... did it bother me what he sprouted about playing in the CL or whatever when he travelled home.. not at all.

All that mattered to me was did he do his best and score us goals. It was a job for him and he was an employee contracted to do that job by us. He showed humanity at times I thought, the way he seemed to take Lookman under his wing a little. He had a great relationship with Barkley in the early days.. the 2 seemed to be forging ahead until Ross didn't seem to kick on as much as Lukaku had.

I have no issue with the guy. Not then and not now. He is a footballer, a new breed, that we better get used to. These players have higher levels of arrogance and self interest than the old generation - especially the ones at the top of the pile. If we don't serve their needs they move.. no ill feeling, it's business. Take Ibra.. club to club to club.

So thanks for the goals and good luck., but he was not our kid.. so unlike Rooney or any of OUR lads, I won't be watching his career. I'm sure it will be very good though. Smart money on him to win the golden boot next year.

The fact that seemingly every time he goes away on international duty, he is talking himself up saying his future is away from Everton.

TBH, he has every right to pursue his career as he sees fit, it is how you conduct yourself when doing so is important, and he has been a bit of a prat in the way he has handled himself when away from Everton.

Also, before you start on the net spent, why not let us finish the transfer window first, eh? (also, who actually cares about net spent, so long as the team is improved)

The vast majority of occasions he spoke out when on international duty was to say he had bigger ambitions. Full stop. I see no problem with that. And I always seem to recall him stating he wanted to do that when interviewed here too, so I dont think there was any duplicity going on. He wanted to achieve success here. We haven;t managed it and he's on his way to a club that will just about guarantee it for him. He's not an Everton supporter and has no historical emotional connection to the club. Why would he wish to not speak out and place himself in the shop window whilst doing his job here to the utmost of his ability?

Its a no brainer for me: he fulfilled his side of his obligations under contract and has nothing to answer for. I wish we had more like him instead of the procession of dullards and journeymen we've seen pass through the doors of the club.

Net spend: yes, it will be all clear on the final day of the window; and it is important, VERY important. Its required to retain your own best players and add to them. What we have now in prospect is another smallish net spend (or even less than that) and we lose as much talent as we gain. Moshiri knows this and its why (presumably) he stated as much in his opening comment to the supporters last March.

Look how excited Rooney was in his interview then watch Lukaku just come out with a load of fake clichés, awesome player but not a human we will miss at all, totally fake, will never care about a football club as much as he cares about himself.

I don't know, it seems to me that we've got some serious people running our club now. This window has been good so far, lessons seem to be learned. We'd all have preferred Lukaku to stay but wanted to go and he isn't the only player in the world who can score goals.
If it's a lesson learned I need to know what solution they're working toward, because any correction of past mistakes starts with keeping your best players and getting your hand in your pocket to invest big money.

Jilted lover stuff this.

No one was remotely arsed when he was here and banging goals in left right and centre.

The feller has gone to advance his career. We are left with a summer transfer kitty because of it.

I can accept that.

I agree with pretty much all of that, I just think that you should conduct yourself with a bit more decorum about your current employers.

Nah, net spent, for me, is completely irrelevant. Look at the overall level of the team, and if we have improved, then it was a good window, if it hasn't improved, then it is a bad window. To hinge the success of a window purely on how much wedge has been handed over is vain and quite silly.

Time for bed Dave, it's been a busy day and you must be knackered fighting off all the wums.

Get a good nights sleep and go again in the morning ;)

We had a transfer kitty regardless and you know that.

But yeh, he wanted to further his career. I have no bad feelings towards him and have said many times that we'll miss him and his goals. Not a complete player but I'm no fan of revisionism, he's had four great years - and as I say it's a shame we couldn't win something/qualify for the CL during his time here.

If we improve with a bear net spend it will be entirely down to a massive level of fortune where all signings click from the off.

Without Barkley (probably) and Lukaku - who are the heartbeat of this team - we are gambling.

We needed to build around them. For one reason or another (finance and politics) we wont get that.

Next season is a roll of the dice when it should have been one of steady building to our strengths with added quality.

It's a heartbeat of a team that has failed though. We're changing things.

I think everybody at the club wants Ross to stay. But if he's not willing to sign the deal on the table then he's going to go, isn't he!

And please, please, stop with NET spend FFS

Moshiri's investment has covered more than just transfers, and even then we're still at least £25-40m (depending on Sig fee) in the red when it comes to transfers.

Pfffft!
