Lukaku - A Fond Farewell

I love him and think he's the dogs doo dahs. I'm off on my holidays next week . So you never know I might become disrespectful and who knows I may take the piss.
Biggest day in my boys life in the SF last year, you failed now go fail elsewhere. Shame on you that you never 'got' Everton, see Alan Ball's (world cup winner) famous comment.
Your loss....

well written @catcherintherye, i hope he gets no response back from our fans when he returns tbh. Not that we should care what others think, but i think most will laugh at us if he has 40,000 boo's every touch when he returns to goodison, when he's left us for the biggest club in england. The same way i didn't understand the booing of fellaini, i suppose possibly that was down to the transfer request when people didn't truly understand why he did that. We applauded him just a few months back when he didn't sign that contract because he said he wanted more ambition from the club. So he's now moved to a more ambitious club, so we can't really change our opinion. We're of course not going to applaud him upon his return, nor should we, so just a mute response on his return will do me. He hasn't behaved brilliantly recently towards the club, but i think his excitement and the next chapter, i'll just see what he has to say about us when it's official, before i start lambasting him.

Anyway, i'm excited about what we can do without him. As good as he was at scoring a wonder goal against the big boys, like city and chelsea in the last two years ... like you say, he was also one of the main reasons we weren't competitive away at the bigger teams. But his sale in transfer fee is the equivalent of 3 £30m players, if all bonuses are met. Our club has played an utter blinder here, especially as it meant getting rooney back on a free at half the wage, as well.

We've now bought captains and players with wining mentality and in this day and age, i believe that's more important than talent. Rom didn't give us that, he's 23 and not won anything bar a single belgian league title and this showed in that dreadful semi final performance of his. We're not deluded enough to think his goals can be replaced solely, i don't understand the argument from fans of other clubs. If we separate it out and look at our strikers as a whole
lukaku 26, valencia 3, calvert-lewin 1, kone 0, niasse 0 = 30

We're bringing in giroud, rooney and sandro and who knows, maybe another. Will those three get more than 30 goals between themselves, possibly? If they don't what did we have from midfield?

barkley 6, mirallas 4, bolasie 1, lookman 1, deulofeu 0, lennon 0 =12

are we going to replace those measly 12 goals from midfield this season from the likes of klaassen and siggurdson as well as those above still at the club? Yeah, certainly. When you combine the overall contribution of goals from our new set of attackers for the coming season, it will equate to more than what we got last season, which is the main aim, without trying to negate how many we concede (another area we're seemingly going to improve a lot on as well).

Great post mate I agree with all of this.

The key to us replacing Lukaku will be other lads upping their goal returns. Not all of these lads are going to play every week, but in terms of league goals, Rooney, Barkley, Siggurdson, Sandro, Giroud, Klaasen all need to be targeted with 10 goals. Not all with get there, some will get more, but that would be a good starting place.

With the complete lack of respect to the club and the fans he really should have joined the RS. Would have made a great fit and hey, would have shared the same room as the "Great" Stevie Me.

i think if we got giroud and siggurdsson in together they would contribute at least 30 goals next season, maybe more. Obviously about a 3rd of those will be siggurdsson assisting giroud, but he scored 11 goals himself the season before last. 75 goals in 182 games in the prem with most of them being for a mid-bottom table swansea side. Just have a feeling they'd be even more lethal than him and llorente of last season. Giroud could get 20 for me and that would be the aim for him.

I still hold a soft spot for this Rom ^ the 21 year old that came in on loan, fresh from an eye-catching stint at West Brom, and set out to show us what he could do. He played for the badge and celebrated goals like they were his last, even ones that he didn't score himself (United away, anyone?) the passion he often showed for a club that, at the time, he was only a temporary fixture of made me believe that he immediately 'got' Everton.

It all seemed to go downhill from the moment he got his permanent, club record-breaking transfer. He let us know from the outset the we were the 'next step' and the hype probably ended up getting to his head.

His actions in the last 4-5 months up to the most recent couple of days have bugged the hell out of me, but at least it's made it easier for me personally to let him go.

Cheers for the memories Rom. I'd like to think that, at least somewhere, Everton has made it's mark on you and you don't forget that.

Firstly, I am not good with computer.
Second. What Toffe3m4n said, is literally the best thing ever.
Lukaku when he came to us on loan, was the greatest, when he came there money was not there. He made a loan to WBA and 'stepped up' to use on his loan. Then when he signed, everything changed. There has always been an expectation for him to move on, regardless of Moshiri. Rom wants to be center stage. This was always going to happen.
When Wayne left, we didnt know what to do... Who would replace him? We didnt have money to spend? Now we do, so I think fans are relaxed about seeing him out the [Poor language removed] door.
My dad, god bless him, doesnt understand twitter, ESPN etc... I've shown him how he has already signified his signing as a Man United player. He is furious and confused, he already has said 'he thinks he is bigger than that club'.

I agree.
Anyone else?

After a year of Sandro we will forget about the big old oak tree that stood once in the opponents half...

Just finish above man u Everton for gods sake

We'll miss his strength. I've never seen the like of him bulldozing through a defence. Unstoppable.
But we can get goals from other individuals.
