Lukaku - Love affair over ?

Best Everton striker of the Premier League era.

All at 21/22.

He's in another league to the Tosuns, Jelavics etc we've had to endure. That's why he commanded a huge fee, an why he's leading the line for the worlds biggest club under one of the games most decorated managers.

Of course he's never going to be an Aguero or Suarez, he's a different type of striker an you either play to his game, or you don't.

He still has 10 years left in his game and for me, other than his comments on international duty - is a model professional. He shown more loyalty to Everton than most - he gave us another season for us to put up or shut up. We then signed Enner Valencia.
Nah, he's rubbish mate he only scores loads of goals, he needs to run around more if he wants to be the best striker in der werld.

On a serious note though, anyone who isn't completely biased in their opinion can see what type of player Lukaku is and what his strengths are. Despite his size he is not a physical striker who will look to bully defenders. He is a player who likes to hit gaps and run at the defence making use of his pace. He gets to do very little of that with Mourinho's boring, slow brand of football. Imo he suits a counter attacking team, quick and direct. Dare I say he'd suit what we're doing nowadays. Not a chance we'd get him though. He is not an elite striker (yet) because his technical ability is lacking in comparison to the Aguero's and Suarez's of the world as you mentioned.

A shame Brands wasnt around last season. I think with Bernard and Richarlison in the side and your Walcott's etc. We may have convinced him to sign a new deal.

Gana Siggurdsson

Walcott Bernard Richarlison

Lukaku

That midfield / attack is top 4 potential.

would have him back today but he think's he's to good for us ( he probably is atm to be fair ) I don't think he's good enough for a title winning side though imo ( despite what he might think )

Oh, and he's not going to win anything at Man Utd anytime soon. Sticking around under Mourinho's 3rd season sinking ship awaiting a manager who might not fancy him.

He'd be a fool to not want/consider a move to Juventus - league title and an actual shot at actually winning the champions league.

Well that's lukaku in general.... wants to move to a team where the other players can carry him - not the other way around.

Let's face it. He will never play in a side as talented as the Belgian national team. A bang average goalscorer would score for fun with them - till they play a side like France... and that's what happened. Put him up against a centre half who knows how to defend to a half decent standard and he is in their back pocket.

A complete enigma.

We wouldnt of stood a chance of doing that, its not about him being in a side that suits him in terms of players around him, its about him being in a side with a global status big enough for his unjustified ego, was too good for Chelsea, too good for us, now is too good for United, he is the problem, not the clubs or his team mates

You say "yet" like you expect his abysmal ball control to improve to a level of at least niclas bendntner

He left Chelsea because he was getting no game time and wanted to start games (we also looked a good proposition at the end of El Fraudo's first year) and he was too good for us, that's a fact. He scored 25 premier league goals in his last season for us and we finished bottom half. I can't speak for what is happening at United atm but it doesn't seem like anybody is happy with situation at Old Trafford.

There's plenty of time for him to improve. He's 25, at that same age Drogba had just moved from Guingamp to Marseille. Not saying he is gonna turn into Drogba but there is always time for him to improve as a player.

Less expecting, more just not ruling it out.

Just because your agenda wouldn't suit it doesn't mean it won't happen.

Who should of been left out of that Chelsea side so he could play?

Thats not the point, he was 20 years old when he joined us on loan (21 when on a permanent). He was a kid who wasn't getting played by his current club and therefore wasn't developing. So he left for playing time. It's got nothing to do with him deserving game time because he wasn't good enough to be starting games for Chelsea, a team who were challenging for titles. He took a step down for his sake knowing full well that he wanted to make the jump back up to a top club. Which is what he did.

He's got about as much chance of learning to become a concert level pianist as he has developing touch and skill.

In the 5 years I've watched him play his touch is as bad now as it was when he came to us. Scientifically put... His brain has matured in his motor skills past the age of 16 it's pretty much done.

Drogba was only raw in his decision making - he was a natural footballer... could do anything.

I assume you watched a lot of mid table French football in the early noughties to know that Drogba was such a star when playing for Guingamp, or not.

The notion that a footballer can't improve at Lukaku's age is absolutely ridiculous. Vardy is another example who at Lukaku's age was playing for Fleetwood in the conference and has now won a premier league title and a golden boot (?). But I suppose you were watching him loads for Halifax Town and he was just a "natural footballer" and never has improved since he was plying his trade against giants such as Eastleigh and Dover...

You can improve a lot as a player, most footballers do during their 20s - movement, reading the game, avoiding injury, the mental side etc etc but basic touch and control? Don't think that is possible, which is Pedro1976's point. Lukaku's probably being kicking a ball around every day for the past 20 years near enough, so if he can't control it now to a prem standard he's never going to be able to.

I do think he is being made to look a lot worse than he is atm - Utd are under a post-Ferguson gloom that won't shift for years. I was aware of Rom's limitations with us but I never thought that bloke is just unable to play football.
