Lukaku to Spurs

Couldn't give a flying what his all-round play is like as long as he slots. And he does. He's settled, has proved for years now that he can handle the league, has fitted in well at the club and is 20.

I don't fancy waiting around for another umpteen years for us to stumble across a top striker. They're very difficult to find for a reasonable price and Lukaku is, or could be, at least, in that bracket.

Break the bank if necessary.

...my sentiment too. The lad scores goals, that's what any club needs. Amazing that we have done so well this season with virtually one out-and-out striker.

????

it's actually wilfried do you have a fave dog called willfried? ha
Boss him

Its never paid up front anyway is it, and to be honest, are chelsea really arsed who much or little they get for them? don't get me wrong, they are a business and expect to make some profits, but this is the club that did this

I remember reading that nowadays half has to be paid up front and the rest within 12 months, bar clauses??

I'd imagine with FFP and that they'd need to stop being so reckless with money.

I hope you're right like. I just can't see Bill changing his tune. Every season we think there's got to be some spends this year. Never materializes.

without a doubt imo, unless it's in his last year with him being past his prime. whatever the fee we want to pay for him, it won't all be up front anyway. even if it stretched to £20m, it will be over installments, stages and in add-ons etc. who knows really, think he'll have better options if we don't get 4th if chelsea hint that he's sellable

just wait and see i suppose, at least we know he's our priority, which seems ambitious to me, which is good.

Its only good so long as we do indeed get him mate, not getting your stated primary targets is never a positive really

As I listed a few times mate, Kenwright has previously had one window where he heavily backed the boss - interestingly the year after Rooney went when we got 4th he spent for the following season something like 25m+ net.

Theirs a lot of parallels to this one their, one year a large surplus not spent from a huge player sale followed by backing which Martinez has stated he has for the forthcoming window, which is partly what's funding my 'one seasons window' optimism, don't get me wrong after this summer will be back to normal routine like, but at least it would give Martinez the chance to do something

£20m for a striker who has scored 30 premier league goals over two seasons, for two different clubs before the age of 21.

Are you SURE?

Yeah I'm sure. I just think him and WBA had one of those seasons last year cos look at em now.

And going by what you say, in theory for us, a better side, more quality and creative, he should have more goals for us considering he's played more mins.

IMO, goals wise, he should have a better return I feel. If we're going to fork out £20m or more on him, then we've got to take into account all the aspects of Lukaku's game.

We're not cash rich so spending £20m on a single player is a big thing for us. Let's all be honest here, his touch is shocking and if it's as bad now after all the drills and training he's had from a young age all the way through the Anderlecht academy then it's not gonna improve much further down the line is it.

His touch and work rate is the issue for me right now as his hold up play and goal scoring exploits can be worked on and improved and that's why I'd still like us to buy him but as a full package currently, I don't think he's worth more than £20m right now, but that's just my opinion.

At the end of the day we're paying for what he is now, not what he's going to be cos let's face it, Lukaku as stated clearly he wants CL and if we don't make it this season but he can see what we're aiming for and still signs but we don't keep up the standards and fall short of even pushing for CL, he will want out in a matter of years and he'll be gone before we've even seen him fulfil his potential?!

Chelsea won't want Lukaku based on today's performance. We shouldn't get too hung up on him, we will defo have plenty of options come the summer.
I'm with Buckers 100%. Lukaku's ball control/touch is worryingly poor . We should not get hung up on him.

He's had one year, almost a decade ago, where he backed us. Forgive me for not joining in Ste. I just think it'll be another summer of excuses.

The only way we'll bid 20m for Lukaku is if Spurs bid 25m.

Perfectly understandable mate, I'm sceptical a huge amount myself, think I'm more hoping that for the first time in around ten years he repeats the one good summer window of backing we have had, If he doesn't I am 100% certain that Martinez will not be here anywhere near the time that Moyes was, 2 years tops

True. I'd like him, don't get me wrong, but if he's going to cost £20m+ then there could be better options around. Fitness seems to be an issue. He seems to be a player who is great for a few weeks but then needs a rest. I'm not sure if he's capable of playing 90mins every week without getting worn out.

I'm hopeful the new TV deal means we won't have to sell a top player every season, which I think will appeal to Martinez. I think he'll be here for his contract at least. Just to prove to people and himself he can do it here.

His touch, hold up play and work rate at times is a concern to me but the reason why I'd still want him is cos his goal scoring exploits in time will out weigh those downsides but I just don't think he's worth £20m or more right now

Not selling is the minimum we should expect from now on though mate, the extra income for this year and onwards gives absolutely no defensible excuse anymore not to invest every year, especially since with FFP limiting the amount on wages it cant be consumed solely by that increasing

You either have a good first touch, oryou dont. Cannot undertstand posters on here saying Lukaku first touch will inprove over the years. As others have said if he hasnt got one now after all the years at the Anderlecht academy, then it aint gonna get any better

Naismith a has improved a lot in the last year. Anyone's first touch gets worse as they tire. I honestly think fitness is his main issue.
