Lukaku to Spurs

Is it a tactical choice that Lukaku doesn't press the back line? Naismith and Barkley will press them but I rarely see Lukaku doing it. I feel like he doesn't do enough off the ball. he only seems to turn on when there is a chance the ball will be played to him. It's like he expects everyone else to do the hard work while he just bags the finish and the glory. I like Lukaku and I want him to stay but I do question his work ethic.

On another note I think he has been unlucky in that he's been the only fit striker this season. I know he wanted to play games this season but I think like Barry he has desperately needed a break from playing 90 minutes every week.
 
Haven't read the thread after today's result. Sorry if it's been said, but lukaku was poor today. He doesn't anticipate, he's always in the wrong place, his hold up play is clumsy at best.

I'll prob get stick for this but I'd rather have Naismith up top. He wins more headers, makes more intelligent runs and links up play better.

We need a striker next season. I think lukaku is over priced.
 
Lukaku is a big reason why we're sitting this high up the table.

No Lukaku and we're sitting 9th or 10th. He's never going to be a world beating striker, I think that much is becoming clear. But he is a good striker, something we haven't had in a while.

No mate, we play much better football and have conceded less (I think) than last year but we finished 6th then.

That's true but the question we are all discussing is, does his style suit the team ,is his work rate high enough and is he worth spunking our whole transfer budget this summer on ????????
 

I think after one bad result and a very tired striker, some people are forgetting exactly what he's done for us this season.

Be careful what you wish for, because without Lukaku next season could be a very rough season.

It's far too early to be coming to them conclusions I think mate. He's still a kid really at 20, especially for a player of his ilk. I think he'd kick on and improve his all round game massively under Bobby.

I know the Drogba comparison is a bit tiresome but if I remember correctly, Drogba was still very, very raw in his first year at Chelsea. Lukaku has more goals this year than Drogba managed in most of his seasons in the PL.
 
I know it's a risk to splurge our limited budget on a player who might not deliver straight away, but the lad is only 20, he's already got a fantastic goals per game ratio and he would be playing under one of the best current manager/coaches in the game. We need to keep him, mould him into one of the best players in world football and, if he comes good, count our good fortune that he's OURS. It's not like we'd be able to afford him if he was the finished article would we? At least we can pretty much guarantee him European football and a regular place in the team.

Honestly, it's a bit of a no-brainer for me: if we have a chance of keeping hold of a terrific young prospect we would be mad to turn it down in the 'interests' of short-term expediency. Same with Barkely, Stones, Garbutt and all our young players.
