Lukaku to Spurs

Task one for Martinez: move heaven and earth to keep this feller. He's easily the best striker we've had in years. 20 years of age and knocking in 14 (so far) in his first season under a new system, and could have had way more if he'd been played in more often.

We will rue the day this lad leaves.

Just not sure we'll get him. I would like to keep him but fear he'll be beyond our budget. Fingers crossed. He's still only 20 and there's certainly room to improve. But even with his 'flaws' for me his gives us a focal point and others feed off that. If he doesn't come back, we must replace him and quality doesn't come cheap.

A statistical comparison of Lukakau with Chelsea strikers this PL season:

Lukaku: P 28(4), G 14. 179 minutes per goal (Lukaku's record last season was a phenomenal 118 mpg)

Torres: P 15(12), G 4. 371 minutes per goal.
Ba: P 5(14), G 5. 134 minutes per goal.
Eto'o: P 16(5) G 9. 144 minutes per goal.

Mourinho has made a fresh call for a new 'killer' striker which didn't sound like Lukaku at all. We can see from the stats that Ba and Eto'o have a superior mpg record than Lukaku this season. Lukaku has the advantage of being first choice in a settled team, whereas the Chelsea strikers have the advantage of playing with slightly better players overall.

Chelsea will buy a mega striker. Unless Lukaku has a change of heart and wants to be a backup for them next season then he will be on his way again. Monaco, maybe?

Actually had an argument with a fella at the match at the weekend, he slagged lukaku off all game...until he scored. I lost it then.

His argument was he does nothing, contributes nothing and isn't worth it.

My argument back is he's scored 14 goals, got some assists and when did we last have a striker this good?

Yes his first touch is frustrating, but to me the plan was to rest him, with Kone and then Traore coming in to help with this,

We were unfortunate to have the injuries resulting in him playing nonstop, the lad is knackered!

Anyone who can't see the talent he has at 20 genuinely scares me.

Buy him and play him next season with the right amount of rest and he'll bag 20 goals.

I think, I can see both sides to the discussion here, as I for one have praised and slagged him off, I'll openly admit it... He is only 20 and yes he needs a rest, agreed. I just wish he would add a bit more of a strut and walz around like he owns the place, maybe a bit of arrogance if you will excuse the phrase. Loved having him here and would love to have him back.

Ive decided we need to keep Lukaku even if it cost us a bob.

He young
He strong
He can score goals
Premiership experience
Will only get better.

I'm really torn on Lukaku. His general play is quite often shocking and he can go missing in games but he has a good goal record, great for someone his age.

No Resolution of Lukaku Situation Until After the World Cup

Roberto Martinez says that if the Belgian is to leave Chelsea this summer as speculation suggests he will, he doesn't expect any movement on Romelu Lukaku's future until after the World Cup.
The manager has made no secret of his desire to sign the striker on a permanent basis this summer but he will likely have to wait to see what happens with Lukaku's parent club's own transfer dealings first.

“Chelsea, are delighted with his progress and the player has developed an incredible relationship with our fans," Martinez says in the Liverpool Echo. “His memories will never evaporate, but we will see what's next.

“We'll see what's the best thing for everyone. But everything will be in stages: how Chelsea are doing in their own squad and how that frees some players. It's going to take a bit of time and I don't think Romelu's situation is going to be resolved before the World Cup, in truth.

“I think it will be after the World Cup.”

The biggest obstacle for the Blues will be the transfer fee with media speculation suggesting the Londoners will be looking for at least £20m and if there is any truth to the reports, there will be plenty of potential suitors for the 20 year-old, particularly if he does well in Brazil.

“We are too close to Romelu to hope he has a poor tournament! We hope he has a really, really good World Cup . . . and then decides to come to us,” Martinez says.

And the Spaniard is typically gracious towards Lukaku in dealing with the issue of the fee.

“I don't think [a ~£20m fee] is my worry. The worry would be that if the deal was a cheap one, it would be because he has had a torrid time and hasn't fulfilled his potential.

“The reason Romelu came to Everton was for him to take a big role, take a lot of responsibility, to start playing 90 minutes and be a real brain in that forward line, and he has done that so we couldn't be happier.”

£20million tops, and I'm in. It's been said before on here and I agree, that we'd more than likely see a better return from him in terms or goals if we have other strikers fit who can give Lukaku the odd rest here and there.
