It's just funny to me when people think professional athletes have somehow gotten slower and weaker than they were 30 years ago
You can be a good athlete and still not be physically tough
Gray played in an era where toughness was a requisite skill if you wanted to survive due to laxer refereeing and more violent defending
Players are far more protected by referees today. I'm sure Lukaku has an element of toughness due to how hench he is, but to suggest that Andy Gray was tougher and could put up with more aggressive defences is a perfectly sensible point to be arguing, and to act like it isn't is utterly stupid
I personally think Andy Gray played a huge role in Everton finally getting some success in the 80's after a barren period. The game against Bayern is an obvious example, but he was also next to unstoppable in the 84 Final against Watford and scored a goal that wouldn't be allowed today but was allowed at the time because you could get away with more, both in defence and attack, which only goes to prove that he was tough because his era demanded that as a quality in a top player
This footage is pretty easy to get hold of if you'd like to educate yourself about the club you supposedly support. If you know your history and all that
