Lukaku. Yes or no

It's just funny to me when people think professional athletes have somehow gotten slower and weaker than they were 30 years ago

You can be a good athlete and still not be physically tough

Gray played in an era where toughness was a requisite skill if you wanted to survive due to laxer refereeing and more violent defending

Players are far more protected by referees today. I'm sure Lukaku has an element of toughness due to how hench he is, but to suggest that Andy Gray was tougher and could put up with more aggressive defences is a perfectly sensible point to be arguing, and to act like it isn't is utterly stupid

I personally think Andy Gray played a huge role in Everton finally getting some success in the 80's after a barren period. The game against Bayern is an obvious example, but he was also next to unstoppable in the 84 Final against Watford and scored a goal that wouldn't be allowed today but was allowed at the time because you could get away with more, both in defence and attack, which only goes to prove that he was tough because his era demanded that as a quality in a top player

This footage is pretty easy to get hold of if you'd like to educate yourself about the club you supposedly support. If you know your history and all that

Easy to do when it's complete garbage

Really? So what you wanna do.... Shall we take down Dixie's statue cos he wouldn't have scored 60 in today's game cos they modern game is faster and stronger???.

Nah. Nonsense, just like your Fanboy love for Lukaku. Probably never even got to see Andy Gray play ...... Scored headers where Lukaku wouldn't even put his feet. That's a beast for ya.

Lukaku is not tough, for his size he's actually quite weak. No aggression. Rooney was a far stronger player than him as was Shearer. Gray and Sharp would have taken him the cleaners.

He's a good finisher/poacher. His balance is too poor to be strong as you seem to think he is.

Did he really? I love the way people rewrite history with him. Played through compressed nerve in his back with arguably the worst support players we have had in recent years. Single handedly carried the fight for us
Nah mate, not having it. Had the ability to absolutely destroy teams on his day, his day was hardly ever though, saying he single handedly carried the fight when he only managed over 25 games twice in 5 seasons. I get he was a cult hero for us in our dark days but I don’t get the absolute adulation he gets.
Two different things, Ferguson could only really get up for the big teams against players that would make it a sport, see the Stam footage etc. He's still a beast in that mode regardless of stats.

Rom is the opposite, the worse the opposition the more he knows he will fill his boots, the better he plays. He would be in Jaap's pocket all day everyday. For proof see almost every match that had proper meaning, Semi finals international and domestic and a final where he scored the winning goal for the opposition.

In an ideal world you would have someone like Rom getting you to the sharp end of competitions and then have Dunc to win them. Lukaku has definitely improved but we need to see can he go up a level to be the man when it most counts.
Bizarre take that. So you reckon he could play well against Jaap Stam but then just dropped levels against crap like Matt Elliot, Ken Monkou. I’d rather have someone who smashed in the goals for fun like Rom. Not a Lukaku fan boy by any means, but he’s absolutely night and day better than Duncan Ferguson.

Did you watch Dunc play? It was never about not showing up - He was the best footballer in the squad by a mile, before you even start on his physical attributes.

OK that's not saying all that much tbf, given our squad at the time, but point is he was a gifted, skilled player - he played at a consistently high level because he was so good. The idea he only showed up against the RS is as big a myth as him being only a physical player.

His injuries were infuriating - massively so as he was one of the few footballers we had. Loads of smaller ones rather than a big ligament or break, and from what was said at the time a lot of that is on him. He wasn't some model pro who dedicated himself to rehabilitation - he DGAF when he was out of the team.

I honestly don't know that it isn't possible. I doubt it because he doesn't have that ability to generate shots for himself but he's also better at attacking the ball than Rom was at the same age.
Rom was and is 5 times the finisher Dom is. Not a slight on Dom, but since the beginning, when Rom had a chance you expected him to slot. When Dom gets a chance, you’re hoping he converts it but not expecting it. Physically Rom just has more to his game as well. How he completely owned Mari this past weekend is something unique. Rom is a top 4 striker in the world. I don’t think Dom will ever touch that level.

I don't think he will either. But I also don't think it is impossible because he's still only 24 and still going up. Rom was improving at 26. I just really rate DCL. The finishing stuff can still come. Look at Bamford.

He’s boss. Mad that he played for us.
I don't even think WBA fans make statements like this ..... He is not a world class player, why wouldn't he have played for us? Man United got rid of him cos he wasn't good enough.

Its proper weird.... He was getting this sort of stuff when he was bouncing balls round the ground off his shin.

Quite frankly he is the most high profile big game choker I have ever seen. Semi finals and finals or games Vs top 4 and he's not even in the mix. Loves West Ham though.

I don't think owning Mari makes any player unique. If it was VVD or laporte then ok. But seriously Mari? Absolute rubbish player.
