Lukaku. Yes or no

He's not but if it makes you feel better that a player who once played for us and couldn't wait to get away can be hyped up to that sort of level then feel free.

I'm looking for us to win trophies, not players who once played for us to win them.
Think you’ll be looking for a while unfortunately mate in the meantime there’s no harm in appreciating when a top player is a the top of his game

Not good enough for us though apparently LOL

If he can do that, or close to that, week in week out in English football now, then good. If he's matured as a player and is in his peak and has ironed out his weaknesses, then good.

But he couldn't before now. He was a flat track bully easily nullified by any half decent defence.

I was impressed with him in Italy, beyond it being a vastly inferior league, because he took on the mantle of being 'the guy' and didn't go missing as much. Anonymu Lukaku was a real thing in England, so we just have to wait and see if that's behind him.

He's already proved today he is at a different level than he was, this is his 4th spell with Chelsea if you include the loan returns and this his first goal for them. That could have played on his mind and made him have a mare today but obviously he feels he does belong at a top team now.

I agree the jury is still out on him being a world class forward who changes games against the big clubs. This Arsenal game was just about as easy as they come and the real rest will be against utd and the RS to see if he has or will develop into the full package.

Excellent post.

Sadly people don't seem to recognise his "downtime". All too frequent and often when he is needed to be on his game. He will score 20 goals no doubt, there are plenty of sub standard teams for him to bully. He may even get the odd one off the back of the excellent midfield and pace Chelsea have.

The way it has gotten with Everton is that we somehow need to appreciate that Lukaku, James, Eto, Carlo had bothered themselves to be employed by us ..... To the tune of absolute millions.

We will be expected to allow them to be half arsed as long as they give us the occasional flash of optimism.

Pathetic tbh, the fans who fawn over these "celebrity" recruits are a problem. We need good honest quality pros..... Not egos with an eye on the next move as we are a lucrative stepping stone

It's possible that bullying a farmers league has gave him the mentality to be a top player. The challenge comes when self-confidence meets his lack of technical ability against better teams.

All I know for sure is I've been right about him his entire career... so far - but I'm now unsure, as I was convinced he'd never make it at elite level, but there's now a chance he will. We'll just have to wait and see, but it's premature to either laud him as brilliant or write him off in English football as of right now.

My feeling is he's improved, will score 20 a season obviously but alongside that won't be the horrible drain on his overall team that he was at Everton and United far too often. If that's the case, he's worth the money Chelsea paid. But we'll have to wait and see.

P.s Can we please stop calling him a beast ..... He really really isn't and it's embarrassing unless you are 14 and like comic books.

Shearer, Hughes, Ferguson, Andy Gray, Sharp, were "beasts".... If I would use that phrase.

This lad has been dominated by centre halves that wouldn't have stood a chance against the players above. He has moments where he uses his physique but for the size of him he is very much lacking in aggression

Yeah Andy Gray is certainly more physically imposing than Romelu Lukaku you nailed that one
