Lukaku. Yes or no

I wish we had someone to do that when we're 2-0 up against Newcastle and cruising into injury time. The idea that goals that add to a scoreline are somehow of less worth is a bizarre notion.
Should go without saying, but adding 2 late goals to make it 5-0 is not as valuable as 2 goals in 2-0 win, or 1 goal in a 1-0 win for that matter. At 3-0 down the opposition is already beat. Top players score decisive goals. They are the difference makers.

On a broader point, Lukaku is a quality striker, but not a world class one. If you stuck him in a passing side (such a Barca, when Barca were good) he’d stick out like a sore thumb. Bulky frame (been on the weights far too much), looks awkward, touch can be suspect at times, and he’s not the best finisher.

Grading strikers today, A+ would be Mbappé, Neymar, A would be Lewandowski, Agüero, Benzema. Lukaku I’d put in the B grade. For being a total bottle job in big games and robbing Messi of a World Cup winners medal I’d put Higuain in the bin.

Not if we grew with him.

we had him what, 4 years and we didn’t make the step up, that’s our fault and not his.

even if his Agent is a cart.

No ta - some short memories on here.

I did Have a lot of time for old portaloo, especially the early years - he always knew where the net was, and his pace and power were unstoppable on occasions, even with his bungee shins.

As hes matured, he seems a better all round player now.

The issue for me wasn't how good he was for us on the pitch ( which was often very good, if occasionally he went missing against the bigger sides) - it was his continual belittling and disrespect of the club by the constant whoring himself to anyone who would listen about transfer moves, when he was playing on some cabbage field for Belgium in some nothing match. Then there was his Da, brother, ma or fifth cousin coming out and spouting the same old transfer [Poor language removed] for prob 3 out of the 4 years he was with us.

Another issue for me - I also think he had better players around him at Everton, than weve got now - he would struggle to score consistently as much as DCL/Kean/Richy do, with our current midfield - Christ, Dixie Dean would struggle to notch regularly with our current midfield.

The lad was what? 22-23, and had an agent in his ear hyping him up as the best striker in the land.

It's almost Rooney-esque, except Lukaku didn't have any local ties to us. He's came out since and said he wish he could have handled it better, and liked his time here.

Yeah, but you can't use hypothetical's, we could argue all day whether he'd get 20 goals with this midfield. But, if Calvert-Lewin was getting 10+ then i reckon he'd still be scoring high.

We know footballers play for the sake of their careers. But Lukaku made a point about it. He was never an Evertonian and the reason I think Barkley left.

We got him coz he wanted to play first team football in the EPL, and the biggest club at the time that would offer that was us.

Would he have really stayed had we "grew" with him? Ha. Absolutely not. His eyes were on leaving Everton as soon as he came here

The thing about Lukaku is he's like a lot of modern footballers hugely over rated. Yes he is a good striker and scored lots of goals for us and he have missed him since he left, however was he ever worth the amount he left for? No. The thing about Lukaku is he has what DCL doesn't gave a strikers brain, in the past this was normal in the past, however nowadays, it seems many strikers don't have it.

I always viewed Lukaku as being a faster Yakubu, he knew where to be when crosses went in and was a good finisher, but was very poor technically. That's the reason it never worked out at United for him, because when your playing for the top clubs you need to be able to change the game, Lukaku couldn't. Personally I thought after he appalling performance in his last derby, that would of discouraged any major club signing him, because it proves he never turns up in big games, United signed him and found out that the hard way.

Lautaro Martinez is one of the best forwards in world football and Eriksen is one of the best playmakers, operating in a league that consists of a majority of Championship/League One standard clubs.

What a surprise Lukaku doesn't embarrass himself in that setup...

He is what he is - a luxury player who will score goals. Inter can afford to play with 10 men every week to accommodate him in that league, but we couldn't and can't. He's proven beyond all doubt that he lacks the ability to play at the very highest level, hence why he ran with his tail between his leg to the continental version of the SPL.

There's a ceiling on what Inter can achieve with him in the side. If they have any sense, they don't sell Lautaro Martinez as he is papering over massive cracks through his own quality alone. Sell him, and they'd be lucky to finish top four with Lukaku up top alone or with someone much less talented.
