Lukaku. Yes or no

We don't know yet, because he failed to deliver in big moments for three different clubs in England.

Italy is tailor made for certain players. You have Ciro Immobile scoring a goal a game when my personal view is he'd probably struggle to get 10-15 in England. It's almost a completely different sport in terms of how it's played.

But my feeling is being able to demolish lightweights in that league has gave him a ton of confidence and he now feels like he can influence games constantly, whereas in England he seemed to go into a shell after being bullied himself in bigger games so often. So the jury is certainly still out on him in England.
100% agree that Italy is tailor made for certain players but the goals Lukaku scored in Italy weren't the type of goals that, for example, Immobile or Dzeko, Morate or even Ronaldo score. It was very much about his power and speed, but then he improved the technical side of his game too.

So agree that yes we maybe have to wait and see on how he copes in the Prem, but we could absolutely say the same about Lewandowski couldn't we. Or even Mbappe or Benzema. Four forwards that are all right up there around the level Lukaku is now at.

Agreed but he has to show that, the world cup games indicate he still gets stage fright on the biggest occasions. It should be a simple fix - go and put away all the chances of a player of his calibre should in an important match and from that point on the problem might not exist. He wasn't bought to sink teams like Villa.
Three years ago when he was at United? Or did you mean the Euro matches?

I mean, he was very good at the Euros tbf, though yes missed a big chance in the Italy game.

My issue with him was people were claiming him to be a "monster" and he's only ,20,21,22,23 and when he is X years old he will be the best in the world.

He's 29 soon. For a physical specimen like him with pace and size and a good finish he has undelivered.

He probably is the best is going to be right now.... And arguably would get in most clubs squads and teams. However he is not near the player some were anticipating him to be.

He's at the aubamayang, vardy level which is decent but not in the elite.

Honestly mate, not sure it is now.

He's a ridiculously good player these days. He regressed at United because Mourinho and then OGS tried to play him as a target man and his heart wasn't in it in the second season.

He was immense in Italy in a very technical league and scored big goals in big moments. Scored 24 league goals and 11 assists last season, that's on Kane level.

Totally agree that he at times failed to deliver for us in big moments, but he's the complete package now.

Not Lewandowski level, and I'd still rank Kane just that bit better than him, but Rom is right, right up there in terms of forwards.
Kane doesn't deliver in big moments. Rom is a step up now.

He's like the third best striker in the world. This is like when people say Rooney failed to be as good as he could have because he wasn't as good as Messi and Ronaldo. It's an impossible standard. Merely being top class isn't a criticism.

I think saying either player doesn't 'deliver in big moments' isn't really right

If Kane scores a 91st-minute winner v Watford, that gets Spurs into the CL, for example, then that's 'delivering in a big moment', just as Lukaku scoring against Man Utd or Man City would be

I still think Kane is just ahead of Rom, but in terms of out-and-out centre-forwards, I rank Lewandowski clear, then Kane, Benzema, Rom all around the same tbh

I know, I was trolling a bit.

For me it is Lewandowski, Haaland, Benzema, Rom and then Kane. Kane's assists last year got people going crazy and it was a lot of smashing one over the top for Son to do the work. It won't repeat itself. The last three are close though I agree.

Oh yeah, Haaland rounds out the top five for me. I mean, he is incredible and he's now adding that bit of creativity to his game too. I still don't rank him above Rom, Kane or Benzema just yet, though, I think those three have all sustained it over 5-6 years now. I don't doubt Haaland will go on to do that, mind. Look forward to seeing him in the Prem sometime soon, as I can't see where else he ends up. Suppose it depends what you count Ronaldo as now too. I don't really class him as that traditional 'number 9', but I suppose that's what he is now.

Haaland is only rivaled by Lewandowski and he's on a team a notch below. The man is a cyborg.

I used to work with a lad from London who was with a bird for years, before she jibbed him and got with a new fella; it was Lukaku.

I feel like you hate Lukaku more than the lad who’s bird he stole, and he has more of a reason than you.

He's not the 3rd best striker in the world at all.

So you would have him ahead of Salah, Lewandowski, Aguero, Suarez, Kane, Ronaldo, Benzema, Mbappe, Harland, Neymar, Messi?

I wouldn't.

No, I hate Everton fans who treat him like he was a club legend tbh. Not really arsed about him. If I was arsed about him I would be like one of the saddos who tweet him, I'm more about trying to understand why our fans pander to someone who played for us with an eye elsewhere.

It's truly pathetic to witness the fanboy like behaviour for one player who "treated" us as a stepping stone. Notice the way I say "treated"....... It's absolutely fine for a club to be a stepping stone in many cases, but it's not ok for a player to "treat" a club like it's a stepping stone. And that is what he did, his "come and get me" behaviour on international breaks was a joke. Holding the club to ransom by demanding a certain style of football. His selective efforts in games..... Remember how he thought he had golden boot wrapped up, put on his flip flops and Kane nailed a hattrick ....... Oh he tried like mad the next game.

He’s living in your head rent-free.

He moved from us to Man Utd and we got in excess of 70mil for the transfer. He’s also our top Premier League goalscorer. I’m happy for players to use us as a stepping stone if we get the output that we got from Rom.
