Lukaku

He has it all in his locker, but to blindly ignore how bad he is is just stupid IMO.

I said that in this very thread, and I rate the lad, but he's been absolutely atrocious for a long, long time now and he's not even putting the work rate in to play himself into form.

I get it, he's a big name player, people love him in the Everton shirt, but come on, let's be completely honest, he's been manure for a sustained period of time now and there's not even a hint of him improving.

Tubey,

I fear that you're making the classic mistake of confusing form with ability and/or class.

Don't.

Christ there is some drivel in here.

The lad had a slump in form, probably because he was knackered, and you are happy he is injured?

Yeah he's ace on FIFA mate, agreed.
wouldnt know as i have got a ps3 but havent touched it in 3 years. his movement off the ball is quality though, we could have done with a bit of that spreading their defence today after we went down a few goals...

We're Everton.

We can't afford to ship out every player that runs into a bad patch of form and replace them with someone else. Just isn't feasible.

Not at all! I understand full well he's a top player, hence why I've just said I've backed buying him for a long time. I think he'll come good.

But it's the 2013/14 season now. Whether he develops two years from now doesn't matter, it's what he is doing right now, this minute, this season.

He is desperately out of form and is showing no signs of improving. So why are people utterly ignoring how bad he is right now just because his name is Romelu Lukaku?

Our service for our front players has been absolute poo for a long while. What happened today? where were the crosses to the front man, I can't recall any if I'm honest.

As good as Mirallas has been in the past few matches he clearly doesn't help the cause for Lukaku at all as he's too selfish.

Look at the type of goals we have scored over the past few months, no wonder Lukaku hasn't bloody scored much, absolute madness those who are slating him, suppose most are happy now as that would of been the last game for him in an Everton shirt.

Goodbye Rom.

Personally I'm not judging his performance tonight, that would be unfair.
But the loan spell has been a failure. In my eyes

1) Scored the winner against West Ham
2) Won us the game vs Newcastle
3) Scored what very well could've been the winner against The Sh*** (still got a point)
4) Assisted winner vs United
5) Winner vs. Southampton

There's five reasons why it hasn't been mate

Wow, I think you're stupid then for ignoring the effort he puts in every week when no one supplies anything to him

Disagree massively. I'd be the first to applaud it if it was; that's the first thing I look for in a striker as movement leads to the midfield encroaching and greater attacking play overall (I got slated non-stop for pointing out Jelavic's movement on here) but he's not moving intelligently in my view, he's been a liability. He's running down blind alleys and he's then sulking when the move breaks down and not bothering to drop deep and link up play at all. And when he does his first touch is usually his last.

So you don't think he should be creating space better for our creative players to find him and link up play, no?

Like top class strikers all over the world do?

Nah, it's easier to just call me stupid for pointing out that he doesn't I guess.

I don't think anyone is disagreeing with you that he's out of form, certainly compared to how he started the season with us and how he did for the full year at WBA last year. He's in a rut, there's no doubt about it and I don't think anyone's ignoring that.

I guess what I'm saying is that based on the make up of our squad (pre injury) we really didn't have much choice in playing another option up front (unless you consider Mirallas) and needed to stick with him. I believe that if you're a good player, you'll eventually get back into good form unless age has caught up with you.

I think he can and will but now the big question is when will he get the opportunity to break out of his slump? I hope his injury doesn't put him out for months but rather weeks.

As do I. But I don't think playing you week in, week out regardless and encouraging complacency is the way to do it. The point we differ on is do you play such a player regardless. I personally disagree that you should. I think you should be telling a talented player when they're piss poor and to get their finger out. Competition for places is healthy, and no matter how much raw talent a player has they shouldn't be in the side on potential alone.

Look at Baines lately. He was useless tonight. If Oviedo was fit, he'd deserve the place next game as he's been much, much better this year than Baines.

Does that mean I think Oviedo is a better player than Baines? Absolutely not, but the hope is that Baines responds positively as a professional.

But is Lukaku a professional? I've been concerned by his media outbursts since he joined; I'm not convinced by him. I think he's a sulker.

I'd love him as a permanent Everton player as I think he's got everything, and he's two years away from showing it. But would I love him as a starting striker this season regardless of form? Absolutely not.

Honestly think comparing Lukaku's performances over the last two months to Jelavic is a disservice to Jelavic. Haven't seen a worse Everton striker in the last decade than Lukaku since November, which is infuriating as he was unplayable from September to November.

At least his injury should force Martinez to sign a competent striker in the next few days. Although if his idea of a competent striker is anything like his idea of a competent centre-half then I'm badly worried seeing how Alcaraz played tonight. Abysmal.

Speechless.
