It's just laughable.

Gutted mate, what a kick in the teeth. The worst possible outcome tonight, a major player injured and a humiliating performance and result.

Yeah agreed. As I say, massively rate Lukaku myself, outstanding potential, but he's not the finished article and we shouldn't be subservient to his talents until he consistently proves himself.

Hopefully, his injury and atrocious form knock £5-10m off his price tag in the summer, that's the only positive I can take from this, as he's going to be an incredible player two years from now.

But he's not that incredible player now, that's my point. Let's just be honest and not deluded about him.

But it's the best we can hope for .

We can't afford a striker how consistently scores, and they are notorious for being the biggest earners.

Having someone who is potential top class on loan is fine by me, most of us know what to expect of him which is why I think we're not deluded either.

I think enough people have rubbished your comical statement as it is. He's been far from great recently, but the worst striker in recent memory? Come on.

Didn't say that; I said his run of form is worse than any other striker in the last decade over a comparable period. For example, Marcus Bent over any given two to three months was no worse than Lukaku has been since December. Lukaku is clearly the more talented player, but that's not what is up for discussion.

If you feel Lukaku has shown over the last two to three months that he's a great player then by all means prove me wrong and give examples of how good he has been.

Most are looking for someone to blame because of the defeat.

There wouldn't be all this nonsense if we'd won and he still got injured. However it would all be negative still.

That is a secondary factor though mate. Scoring is something that leads on from linking up the play and the entire side being a more influential attacking unit; the problem isn't in Lukaku's goalscoring, it's in his approach play and overall enthusiasm.

Can we afford a striker who better fits our system? In my view, yes. Can we afford a player of the ability Lukaku can reach? Well, that's an entirely different question - the answer is no, as Lukaku is a £50m striker in the making. But he isn't it yet; nowhere near.

I said myself he hasn't been great recently, in fact he's been rubbish....but we've had our fair share of inadequate strikers in the last decade, who have been even worse than the level Lukaku has been performing at in the last couple of months.

You've got to admit that your original statement was a bit silly, though. But, I must be honest in that Lukaku's performances have worryingly dropped. I agree, he isn't that player that I thought he was. His first touch is poor and he isn't very good with his back to goal.

He will be a top striker in a couple of years from now, but I don't know if we could justify spending £20m+ on him (let alone afford him) with the lack of money we have.

Probably the best example that like. Him and Cahill where mind-numbingly ineffective for that period of time until Felli came in. Not much in it though; Saha wasn't that much more ineffective than Lukaku of late, just that he had the excuse of having no knee cartilage left!
