Lukaku

Now there is another player who has proven that from 20 onwards technique and touch does not improve... he scored 17 league goals at 20 years old

He scored 17 goals in the Championship.

Lukaku has scored 15+ goals in 2 consecutive seasons in the Premier League.

How many players have done that in the past decade? I'd venture that only elite players do that.

If he stayed at exactly the level he is now he'd be a bargain for £20m.

I'd love for people to actually name the players they think would be better value.

... and Lukaku is a Belgian who thinks he should be a number one striker at a Champions League club. The lad has an ego, and that can be a very good thing as winners do have egos, but lazy people who have egos can become complacent and a liability.

I still have no clue what camp Lukaku falls in. Sometimes he comes across as well spoken, then the next minute he looks like a daft kid full of self-importance.

Well my point was that Andy Carroll is NOT "proof" that 20-year-old players don't improve. That would be like pointing at Francis Jeffers and claiming it's proof that players get worse.

If Rom keeps scoring goals, he'll be worth at least £15 million. If he improves his all 'round game, he could we worth an extraordinary amount. I really don't see how he's a gamble at circa £20 million.

Andy Carroll scored 11 in 19 for Newcastle in the Prem at the same age - a better rate than Lukaku in a worse team than Everton's last season. At that rate Carroll would have got 20+ goals in a full season...

Reading of the game, positioning, tactics, movement, control, discipline, team play, passing, short balls, long balls, everything really... all these things improve with experience and work, he's currently at Bony's level but with several years of experience to go before he reaches Bony's age, by then he will be massively better.

Jesus H Corbett thats a hell of a lot of bull your chatting there, to say he's at the same all round level as Bony now and that he's going to improve on all those levels you've conveniently pulled out of nowhere means he's going to fetch about 100 million plus sell on value, biggest load of turd i've heard on this debate thus far

He then scored 2 in 9 for the RS. He ended up with 13 goals in 28 games which is a slightly worse rate than Rom.

It's a joke comparison.

@hafnia @Tubey

Which forwards of sinilar age would you prefer over Lukaku?

@hafnia you seem to want a neymar type?

@Tubey you seem to want to sign several players instead of making a big signing highlighting the moyes approach of buy low and sell high. However yhis just gets youbto a glass ceiling

Lol, why?

Why would he fetch 100mil because he gets better with age? did I say he would be an elite level at these things?
Are you telling me that with another 5 years of playing he's not going to improve? He won't learn another thing?
He'll get better at... everything, its not a conclusive list, there are plenty of other things he'll improve on as well. The only thing that may be maxed is his strength and pace and other physical attributes.
Anything mental he should improve until he stops playing/stops learning.
That won't make him a 100mil player, it will simply make him a better player. How much he improves is any ones guess, maybe very little, maybe a lot, who knows.

Also he's already matched Bony's one season here in both his PL seasons, why can he not be considered as good?

Don't think it gets you to a glass ceiling at all - it's just smart business. If you start splashing the cash all over the place on the flavour of the month when you're a club of our size and make-up then you end up like Leeds.

There aren't any that I'd rather sign than Lukaku at his age, but then Lukaku is apparently rated at £20m, so it's a moot point. Batshuayi is £8m but a substantially bigger risk in terms of quality, but that would allow you to then have a go at Martins Indi, have cash to fund a possible Traore loan extension, maybe bring in a defensive midfielder to sure up an area of the pitch we lack depth etc.

If we had a £60m transfer budget, I'd be all for taking the risk on a few extra million quid on Lukaku. But we don't.

Rom will get stronger. He might lose speed, like Rooney, but I bet Rooney is stronger now than when he was 20... He's certainly bigger.

Bale was a left back when he was 20, and Gerrard had made 8 apps for Liverpool at the same age. To suggest players can't or don't improve barely out of their teens is bizarre, and totally wrong.

What about that Bojan, he never seemed to improve, infact mate there is probably just as many footballers who don't improve to one's that do, you just don't hear about them, it's not a given that he's going to improve, just likely, and that is based on his actual attitude not the attitude we're lead to believe he has, i have serious issues with his attitude his constant waving his hands about when things don't go his way, he is NOT as good as Bony just yet, we have to be carefull with our money, it's not out of the question that it could backfire
