Lukaku

I think it indicates a player who values himself a little too much...

I agree. Lukaku definitely has potential, but people go on as if it has already been fulfilled. He's good and strong, but his positioning and movement off the ball is nowhere near that of an accomplished striker. I was watching Suarez against England, and there was a moment where a hopeful Uruguayan long ball was drifting harmlessley towards Cahill's head, which he duly cleared. But Suarez had made the run behind him regardless, in anticipation of an error. Later on he'd make a similar run which ended up in a goal, and all because he constantly sees opportunity and spaces where others see none. Usually, it would be unfair to compare a player like Lukaku to Suarez at this stage in his career, but if he insists on acting like a world-class forward in terms of his expectations for wages, champions league football, gametime etc. then he really needs to start identifying his numerous deficiencies and acting like the player he thinks he is.

It's literally just a money issue for me in regards to Lukaku

He's young with great potential and I think Martinez could mould him into an excellent player

The problem is the price. Not because I think he's incapable of doing it justice but more because signing him will pretty much take up the whole transfer budget, meaning we'll either have to sell some of the squad we already have or get by on 2 or 3 loan signings

I would still prefer us paying less for a slightly worse striker and strengthen in other areas as well, rather than just in the striking role

It's the tightrope you have to walk when you aren't one of the big spenders

Ah!!! do we have to play both at the same time??? Oh no! Maybe we are gonna have to do something called "have a squad" - give the manager decisions to make. Make the players compete for a place.

I quite like your new revolutionary ideas of "have a squad" and "make the players compete for a place" Have you applied to the FA for the England job.

Screen shot your titles won page from FM14, the job will be all yours.

It would just be nice if we were the ones signing a big name player rather than moving them on. Lukaku is only going to get better.

We should be able to afford £20-25 million on him then just bring in loans and frees. Barry on a free, traore and a couple of others on loan. With those Gibson, Oviedo and pienaar back we would have a very good squad IMO.

I think we'll have to promote from within if we buy Lukaku

Chuck the younger players in at the deep end. That could damage their progression. Out of or youth set up the only players I think you could throw into the first team and expect them to hang would be Duffy and Long, with McAlney, Lundstram, Kennedy and Browning on the cusp

Put someone like Kennedy in and he may shine or it may be too much too soon. I'm wary of us having to do that. As most on here will know, I'm in favour of giving the younger players a chance, but you have to be sensible and cautious about it.

My point has been proven, that when he is not on his game - he literally is not seen at all. A passenger, frustrated and sulky. A £20m striker does not do that.

Naismith - for his limitations does not stop, he doesn't hide, he doesn't wait for his team mates to help him - he gets involved, he gives the defenders something to think about.

I have seen Lukaku do for us what he has done against Algeria and Russia - pretty much nothing. He pretty much said he wants the "big powerful" fellaini up top with him to occupy the defenders and allow him space... Rom, you are 6ft 4 and aren't exactly scrawny - get your head sorted.

Apparently Origi is the new kid on the block because he's done well coming off the bench for 2 games whilst Rom has struggled. 2 bad games in a WC and the boy is mince ffs have word.

People keep beating the same drum...his touch, whilst completely ignoring the fact most people actually agree with them but can see past his flaws and see his potential, coupled with the fact he has already scored 15+ goals in 2 consecutive seasons in the Premier League. Sometimes you just have to take a chance because scoring goals is what it's all about.

What is he? 21? Any player at that age has anonymous games. He has a few "bad" games every now and then. We can't afford the finished article now. Lukaku will be the finished article in 4 or 5 years. This is the best chance we will have of signing a player of his potential but hes also proved he can score goals for us.

It's all well and good praising players like Naismith who run around a lot when playing badly but we've had those type or players for the last 15 years and we haven't achieved anything by Everton standards. Lukaku has that little bit of class we've been missing up front. He really could be one of the best strikers in the world.

I don't understand how people can view him any differently. What would you have us do? Go out and buy another Andy Johnson. We've been a club since rooney left without a striker, bar yakubu for a season we've not had much up front but we've had real quality in other areas. I think lukaku would change all that. It would be beneficial for him as well, the World Cup has proved he's not at that level yet. We aren't at champions league level either but we and he definitely have the potential to be.
