Lukaku

As stated, his goals do cover up a part of his game that is flawed.
First touches don't win matches, goals do. Are there parts to his game that are lacking? Yes. But he scores goals by the boatload compared to a few of the other strikers here lately. That's the difference between fifth and fourth.

But Jelavic is barely a professional footballer.

12 million is not the separation between Lukaku and Jelavic.

The market is skewed towards spending a load. Regardless of ones feelings toward Lukaku, he is a 25 million striker simply because he is young and scores goals in the Prem and that means someone would be willing to buy him for that price.

You are probably right, I just feel that £25m represents a fair chunk of risk relative to our finances. I think also think Jelavic at £7m was expensive.

Yep, see Jordan Rhodes, never played in the prem, and cost Blackburn £8 million. Goalscoring centre forwards do NOT come cheap, even at that level.

Oh, I'm not sure if I think we should go and drop 25 million on him.

I would in a second if we have 15-20 million on top of that to strengthen though. But if he's our only purchase...that scares me...think he's probably worth it, just because we know he can score 15+ in our setup and gets along with our team. He scored 15 and was out for over a month, came in on deadline day, couldn't play against Chelsea, and never got a rest outside of the injury. Think he could have topped 20 easily given a full season and a reasonable backup.

20+ goals is totally worth 25 million to me, regardless of his first touch, but I'm not sure it's worth having 2 CM's of note, one of whom is made from the finest china. If we get Lukaku, Barry, a boss door unlocker, and a good backup CM, then some loans in - totally worth 25 million. If we just get Lukaku...not sure about 25 million.

Sadly it wont be the price that prevents us buying him, he'll go to a Champions League team somewhere else in Europe. Just don't think we have any chance of signing one of the most wanted players in Europe right now.

I'm pretty certain we can afford him, but I'm also pretty certain returning to us is not his first choice. All we can do is wait and see how he does in the WC, which will decide his future.

southampton want 25mill for lallana...who do you think would be the best buy..if given the choice.

At that price neither, £25m for lallana is daft money. He's a big fish in a small pond at the moment, I recall Downing looking a world beater at the likes of Boro and Villa as soon as he went to Liverpool the expectation levels hit him.

I'm not saying Lallana will fail, I think he's a good footballer but prices are just getting ridiculous - he would be a great addition to most squads, but £25m is first name on the sheet money and in reality he will be an option for them between the lines with Coutinho etc.

If Mirallas could apply a little more thought and be less selfish he could offer us what Lallana offers.

Reckon Kev is better than Lallana in all the positions they played in last year.

At £25m Rom over Lallana for us but Lallana probably a better signing for the rs. Although I'd be loath to pay it for either of them.
