Lukaku

Away from home I think we need Barkley behind Lukaku. Barry and McCarthy get swamped in a two away from home and neither have the range of passing to get us from back to front quickly. We have to try and build the play up with a two man midfield - something most sides on their own patch will not let you do. When Barkley drops in we are much more solid as a three to keep the ball rotating and to run the ball up the pitch on the counter. I don't mind Naismith out wide away from home a he effectively shuts down one flank and his pace energy and stamina are always useful away from home. McGeady is virtually useless at grounds like Turf Moor and Osman's lack of pace is a problem away from home.

At home, especially against lesser sides, I see no reason why we couldn't have Lukaku paired with Naismith or Etoo flanked by creative players like Mirallas and Pienaar/McGeady. In an ideal world I'd have Barkley probably alongside McCarthy in a midfield two but I can't envisage Martinez ever going for that (especially after the Barry Barkley disaster against Palace last season).

In short Lukaku is your main man. We then have a raft of options to play alongside or behind him who can all score and create goals. Naismith has had/will get his playing time. If that's starting like he did in the first few games, on the flank with Barkley in the team, or coming off the bench like he did last season, we know he's a quality player who will get us goals and gives us a different option to Barkley Lukaku Etoo and Mirallas (still can't believe they all play for Everton). That is what having a quality squad is about. We're just not used to it because its been a few decades since we had a decent attacking unit. Remember we've still got a 6 million pound striker to come into the squad as well.......

Lukaku?

An enigma.

Doesn't play football like a £28 million striker at the moment.

But by 'eck he scores like one.

If he scores so frequently when he is playing bad.....he will be a beast when he starts playing well.

Keep the faith.

We need to get over the price tag. It's the state of things in football.

Does Luke Shaw play like a £30 fullback? Does Lallana play like a £25 midfielder?

Our ROI is certainly greater than MANY of the large transfer fees out there.

He was poor yesterday.
He lost every header and never held the ball up we need to get Big Dunc working with him and get him back to his fearsome best.
Still going to be quality needs to work harder and get fitter though

Lukaku's goals for West Brom. Is it me or does he look leaner, quicker and sharper there? Looks to me like he's lost a yard at the moment..

Where's @NEC ? I thought he'd be having a field day today with Lukaku's mistake.
I hope know one berates a player on here for a genuine footballing error. We should be highlighting the fact that his movement and appreciation of space plus his work rate has improved in the last 2 games, no surprise maybe he has nicked a goal in his last 2 starts. I have been very critical of rom this year mainly down to attitude but he does seem to have his hunger returning. I'm a great believer that strikers get out of game what they put in and rom is picking up some poachers goals by being in the right place at the right time.

I said this a few weeks ago. He looks to be playing heavy.

I cant work it out; its like he has sandbags tied to his feet. With his back to goal he is poor, his touch is poor, one time passing is average, cant run with the ball. Looking forward to seeing him win his first header this season. hmmm. Still scoring the goals but he isnt the Lukaku I know.

I think the only reason Barkley didn't start yesterday was because he'd done 90 on Thursday - and needed to be fresh/not risk injury. I think he'll normally start, but we've now got two unbelievable options in Lukaku and Eto'o - plus Naismith.

His link up play is much better, but I think he's struggling without Barkley, but that's due to no fault of his own, it's the way Martinez makes us play when Barkley isn't in the team.

When Naismith plays, there isn't much drive from the midfield, so Martinez asks Lukaku to drop and play target man, to try and bring the 3 attacking midfielders into play.

When Barkley plays, the drive is there, so we're less reliant on Lukaku being the man to link up play, and I think he's much better at this.

Yeah that's what I think aswell, unless his dreads gone makes him look bigger. Regardless think he just needs to get fitness fully back. It's obviously there!

But I do wish people would stop moaning as I think the WC hasn't helped/a lack of pre season for the lad, None of the top strikers are performing as well this season coincidence? It's your sakhos and pelles only aguero and Costa have done much from the established strikers.

He's a fantastic striker and like del boy the boo boys will be whinging in the lukaku thread in world football one day "COME BACK PLEASE ROM" whilst we have some 1 in 3 clown from real bet s playing up front for us or something

On his goal......am I the only one thinks he meant exactly what he did ? He dinked it beautifully, it was no fluke. Also etoos ssecond did not take a deflection carragher you shithouse

Ridiculous as it sounds, he needs to grow the dreads back.

He looked ferocious bearing down on defenders with his locks flowing.
