Lukaku

our best chance would have been to get it done as soon as the season ended, before other teams were looking around for strikers. there's quite a few of them moving around the big clubs this summer, but we didn't exactly have much time before he had to go with the belgian squad.

Teams would have been looking at strikers as soon as the season ended mate. Just as we are/were/did.

I think there's a little bit more that goes into it Jack than getting the season over and everyone looking round for a player! There's months of planning and scouting, Lukaku will have been on lots of teams wish list for a long while. Our one advantage is the fact he's been settled and happy here for a season, that will count for a lot when Lukaku and his agent sit down and plan his next step. If we've got the finances in place we've got as good a chance as anyone.

pretty sure we knew he was going to be our main target a good couple of months ago. possibly the fact we qualified for europa only, may have put us off (of course we may have enquired for all i know), thinking he wouldn't have been interested. just think we should have opened talks at least with chelsea as soon as the season to have a chance.

have no doubt he'll have better offers, who knows, i never expected it so even that we're trying now is a good statement of intent.

This may be wishful thinking but I cant see him going to Atletico Madrid, he wouldnt really fit into their system and it is hard to see how much they might make on him when sold. Not sure why Juventus would want him for that money either, given who they already have there.

Though of course Chelsea wanting to sell him makes no sense either.

Don't get your hopes too high, lads.

He's already got multiple possible destinations to choose from. He'll probably have more after the world cup. Some may offer champions league football and we may be down the pecking order from them. We may not even have the money to challenge for his signature.

The fact we'll try is great though.

I think he has to be the priority. Gives us an immense spine for a decade. If not him then another world star of similar age as its crucial to have the cherry on top of stones barkley mccarthy....

Id go for him and a top young midfielder maube will hughes is hea as good as people says. Then get 4 loans in to fill out the squad.

I just said the same in the 'youth / John Stones development' topic.

We need to go all out for Lukaku. Everyone knows he'll be an absolute star. Pretty much guaranteed at least 15 goals a season for many years to come.

We need quality more than quantity in my opinion. I know we have extra games due to europe but we can supplement the squad by giving youth more experience and hopefully we'll be less unlucky with injuries next season.

End of the day it's not in our hands, yeah he was boss last season and I'd love to see him in a blue shirt permanently but it's daft to get yourself worked up about a player that isn't ours. Money does talk but I think he likes it here and given we offer a proper amount of money for him I can't not see him signing for us. Either way if he signs he signs, if he doesn't then we'll just go and buy another striker with the money we have for him.

Exactly this, was going to post the same thing.

Barkley and Stones are 2/3 of an outfield spine, lukaku signing would give us the best young spine in europe.

Just need a top centre mid to slot in next to mccarthy and we look very strong.

That is it for me as well, exactly what you stated the spine of the team would be fantastic and then add in our players to the side Coleman, Baines, McCarthy, Oviedo well and truly on our way.
