Lukaku

Lukaku had now had three complete seasons of EPL football behind him plus one World Cup....but he actually looks worse now than he did at any time in this past three years.

Crux of the debate right there. Has he plateaued, or is there more to come?

People go on about his goals, but a few things - first of all, he scored a lot of them in Belgium, hardly a massive standard of football overall. And secondly, for West Brom, Belgium and his explosive start at Everton, he has scored the vast majority of those goals in a counter attacking system of football (he went 15 games for Chelsea without scoring in a possession based system, and has largely been uninspiring when we've played a similar system too).

These are the doubts. People are not getting on his back for "fun", there's a genuine element of doubt that Lukaku is the top player a lot of people think he is or he is going to be, especially when employed in a system that to all appearances seems not to suit him at all, and he's made no improvement in for several years now.

Lukaku's a bit turd but in your words Howard's world class?

Oh my.
I don't remember saying Howard was ' world class ' Eric. hmmmmm I don't think i did. I might of mentioned he is a very good goalkeeper, still is.

But yes Lukaku it seems (at the present time) a 28 million pound dud. He is a bit turd mate isn't he ?

Still young mate, potential Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

He is fast approaching his 3rd full season playing in the top division in English football and if you can't see that he has gone backwards in his progression then i don't know what to say. As i've said in earlier posts; apart from one handful of games at the turn of the year, Lukaku has been poor ever since he came back from injury about 12 months ago.

Where would you class Lukaku ? You have your Aguero's, Costa's, Rooney's, Sanchez'... etc. Just looking at the premier league for world class strikers. Well Lukaku cost around the same amount as those mentioned and they look every bit value for money. People need to stop mentioning Rom's age, if he isn't ready then he shouldn't be playing week in and week out (something he has been doing for 3 years, 2 years certainly).

Right now we have a 28 million pound striker in the same bracket with Leonardo Ulloa, Peter Crouch and Gomis. Let that sink in and tell me it doesn't make you fume.

Lukaku has a long long long way to go before he can be mentioned in the world class category.

19 goals definitely isn't a bit turd even if he does have flaws and needs to do better in the league next season.

Lukaku isn't part of the problem. The problem is the total lack of creative players in the team and the lack of an alternative if he isn't playing well. Those along with a goalkeeper should be our priorities in the summer.

Difference is theyre on 3 times his wage so they dont actually cost anywhere near what he did.

We never bought the finished article, we bought a player who has extremely high potential yet still has a few flaws but who'll guarantee you a certain amount of goals each season in the mean time

Don't you think he has made any improvement on one of his main weaknesses, his hold up play?

Personally think he has been much better in general with it this year although still inconsistent, there are games where it just bounces off him the entire match. Seems to be more a concentration issue to me than a lack of skill as such.

You touched on something there and i agree with you. Yes we do need a bit more creativity in the side and maybe possibly the system that we now play (possession based) doesn't quite suit him. If you go back over the last few pages and saw my comments, you would see im not really going on about his goal ratio. I'm talking about his game in general; he has shown to be quite average.

Even Baines is concerned. He has handed over penalty responsibility to him in the hope he gives him a kick up the arse and to better his goal scoring record. Noticed Baines has also given Lukaku the green light to take free kicks too.

He has scored one in open play in the league since early December, the one that hit him on leg on the way in against
Crystal Palace. He is a young fit man, Saha was an injury prone 30 years or older. I'd take Saha, wasn't mad on him but
he had a lot of class when he was fit. You like Lukaku, fair enough, I hope he finishes up doing the business for us, just
can't see it at the present time.

Saha went 24 games in a row without a goal.

I love how penalties dont count, when it suits people's argument, well they do, and so do all other goals.

Its a FACT, no matter how you want to dress it up, that Romalu Lukaku has scored 19 goals this season.

Lets just analyse Saha's goals/games numbers :

2008/9 - 29 Games 8 Goals

2009/10 - 40 Games 15 Goals

2010/11 - 26 Games 10 Goals

2011/12 - 20 Games 2 Goals

Total : 115 Games and 35 goals

The Blackpoo game, which you use as a point to show how he is better than Lukaku.....Saha scored 7 league goals that season.....4 in that 1 game. So the other 21 games he played that season....he scored 3 goals.

Also, If they dont count, then you must remove Penalties from Saha's record, becasue he sed to take them.

So does Saha's 4 goals in that one game. You can't moan about someone removing pens to suit an argument, then contradict yourself later in your post about Saha scoring 4 in a game to suit your argument. He still scored 7 league goals.

Please consider things like the team around him, managers style, injuries etc... plus we got saha for cheap didnt we ? Lukaku cost £28m so money can cloud someones judgement.

Plus he wears them paper thin horrible banana slippers, he needs a pair late 90's predator champagnes. That will sort him out.

Yes, and oour current team have provided Lukaku with scraps.....yet get NO blame with Lukaku's goal return.

Well that is my point....im analysing Saha's goals with the same theory that he was for Lukaku !!!

I liked Saha, and I like Lukaku, I liked AJ and Yakubu too.

19 goals.....in a poor team not playing well....is very good. Europa goals DO count massively.
