He looks bog standard to me. He has the skills I'd expect of any PL footballer at this stage of his career. He is not outstanding.

I think you get off on having your alert feed light up.

I say what I see. He's a decent player and no more than that. A long, long way to go before he can think of unseating Baines and Oviedo. He needs to learn how to defend first and foremost. He's all over the shop.

I definitely agree that he's far behind Baines. There's a case to be made for him against Oviedo, who has different qualities. I just like to see a corner beat the first man though, I'm not even sure I've assessed Garbutt as a player beyond that.

You don't like him because you made up a story that he was a snide with your god Martinez.
I know you like slagging the players and ex players off but try and look at players with an open mind.
Your obsession with Martinez is impairing your thoughts

His delivery into the box is very very special. He's a 21 year old who's played 3 (?) Pl games so I wouldn't expect him to be solid defensively yet. If that can be rounded out then he will be a major asset to any team, hopefully ours.

Only a young lad but great potential

An honest question mate, but how would you compare his performance to Barkley? bearing in mind Barkley is meant to be potentially one of the best players we've ever produced.

I suppose I mention that not just to slag Barkley off or indeed say Garbutt was brilliant. Arsenal are currently in fantastic form domestically and have a team filled with quality. They are one of the top 3 teams in the league. Barkley found that difficult, and without setting the world on fire I think Garbutt did well considering the opposition.

That Bellerin looks a really good player to me too. If Coleman went I'd love us to sign him, or try and get him on loan next season. It wasn't easy for Garbutt going up against him an Oxlade Chamberlain but he handled himself well. He needs to improve defensively, but his delivery into the box is fantastic.

Garbutt: I'd have no problem with him playing in any game at the moment. He looks composed...always a good attribute for a player in this league. That's not the same as saying he's the number one pick for the LB slot though. And it's not the same as saying he's a special talent. Young players coming through tend to take the eye because everyone assumes they wont be good enough and are happily surprised that they can hold their own...that can tend to over-inflate their importance. I remember Hibbert coming into the team under Smith and thinking what a find he was. He was, when all was said done, very decent but limited. I think Garbutt can be better going forward than Hibbert, of course, but it's a salutary lesson in not going overboard.

Baines was awful defensively when he first got here. Back then did you want him benched for Lescott forever?

No, but Moyes did the right thing to keep him there until he found his feet. Besides, Baines was proven professionally over many seasons, Garbutt is not.

It will take a lot for Garbutt to be as good as Baines was but then again it took a while fr Baines to bring that level of performance out when he joined. I think Garbutt's got a good delivery (although so did Baines and Arteta before the Goodison curse got them) but that's about it at the moment. He's not the left back equivalent of John Stones, he's just a decent player who could develop into a good one.
