But when he came here took a long time to get into it. You have just put up a vid of a goal but what his play from game to game and compare garbutt to that. Just give Garbutt a chance. As I said elsewhere Baines is darned good but playing time is now limited, how many years do you think before he comes up against a winger like Del and gets left behind. Garbutt has the years on him that is the point here so does need to get a few chances, don't you think.
i agree we should be seriously thinking of moving Baines into replacing Barry next year. Barry has been very good recently so its not something for now but I would definitely like to see this over the course of next season.

Here is who must stay: Stones, Garbutt, Baines, Oviedo, McCarthy, Gibson, Ross, Besic, Lukaku, Coleman.
Here is who must go or get transitioned towards the exit: Howard, Distin, Barry, Osman, Pienaar, Alcaraz.

We stay pretty much as we are as a squad and I don't see us progressing. Obviously, some of this won't be in the manager's hands.

I would really like to know where Jags and Kev stand in terms of Roberto's way of playing football. I do feel that when results stopped going our way, there were players who were willing to blame the manager as opposed to take responsibility. The lack of urgency when we go down has been palpable on a number of occasions. Like many of our fans, there are some in the squad who were happy to sign on to M's approach when we were doing well, but bailed when the going got tough.

That said, Martinez also needs to demonstrate to players and fans that he is growing and can learn from mistakes. I think he has done some of that by lowering the number of goals we conceded. But I think he made a huge mistake (as others have noted) by putting Howard back in goal. And he needs to how that he can get his players to play more quickly, make bolder substitutions, and get more direct. Where is the tactical innovation and savvy of last season's demolition of Arsenal, for instance?

I wonder if we were knocked out of the Europa earlier would he still be there?

(We win the Europa of course and all the whinging and plotting will be forgotten)
jags has been fantastic since Stones came into the side. Not just defensively but distribution and bringing it out too.

His distribution was terrible last game. Pinged 4 or so balls to Garbutt that went straight out over the sideline. Been much more like his old self defending though.
As for Garbutt I agree he is a good prospect. However, I've seen him be caught out quite a few times where he is too narrow and gives the winger or other fullback far too much space to get a ball in.
Great in his offensive output, but defensively leaves much to be learnt.

An excellent exchange with Davek and I agree with everything here except Naismith. I'd get rid of all except him. With more quality, he offers passion and leadership and we will need some of that when we lose all these seniors.

Well yes, I certainly enjoy debating with him, while we don't always see eye to eye he puts his viewpoint across very articulately. Thank you for your kind words.

Naismith I put in there reluctantly. For me he has been our best player this season, by quite a distance. While this says a lot about Naismith, I think it says more about the performances of other members of the team and how we have functioned as a side so far.

I am still to be convinced that Naismith should be a regular starter in the side we aspire to be. If our best players were playing to the best of their ability I am not sure he is in the strongest 11.

It's hard not to admire his attitude though and until players like Barkley start to show some consistency long may he stay.

Garbutts crossing is very good. talking of crossing.. anyone got some stats over how many corners we have had in a row now without scoring from them? And is it a world record? feels like it..

I remember at least 2 of those specifically, and I would say they were because Garbutt was not where he needed to be. Think Garbutt even acknowledged as much. Not having a go at Luke, he's still young and he'll learn, but there's a reason that almost never happens with Oviedo/Baines.

Think it is a straight case of who do you prefer, This lad or Baines. Opposite to who you say would feel.rightly so, hard done by. Really good these 2. If we can keep these 2 in our squad nobody in the PL can come anywhere near the quality of our LBs.

Oviedo

Comes after them. Oviedo defo a squad player. Not a massive hit anyway. United match apart. See why you posted that though.
