I am sooooo bored of people moaning about Hibbert being picked ahead of Garbutt. Firstly, we won the fookin game and secondly all West Ham were interested in doing was starting a fight and putting snide challenges in. Perhaps not the best situation to throw a young player into, especially considering the pressure the team were under at the time.

If you honestly think Garbutt has made his decision based on that one match you're kidding yourselves. He's a young lad, ready for the first team and in all liklihood has decided his best option for his career is to look elsewhere. I can't say I blame him for that. Good luck to him. He may be one of the extreme minority of players who leave Everton and go on to better things. Only time will tell.

Any rumours of how much we have offered him per week?

I was told that he turned down £25k a week from City because he just wants first team football, and reckons he can get it with a lower rate Prem team.

Fair play.

Still doesn't make sense to why he just bought a house locally though.

Could and probably should have had more minutes but I think Martinez and Everton have looked after him well and helped him progress. We sent him on loan when it was the right time, brought him into the squad at the right time and have given him game time in some big games this season as well. He's got 2 top left backs in front of him but what he really has to do is either back his own talent and bet on himself becoming Evertons left back in the next 12-18 months and if he doesn't think he's going to be good enough or the manager doesn't rate him then the obvious step is to sod off.

Either way I think we are being overly critical of Martinez on this one and imo I don't actually think Martinez is that arsed tbh if he does go.

thank you for posting this, could not agree more - and it will be funny if we do end up re-signing him. I don't see a club like Everton letting a player like Garbutt that we invested in walk like this. Unless he has turned into poison.

Thought Garbutt was a decent option for Baines but he was far from the finished article. He has a sweet left foot and is very good at crosses but is still vunerable at defending. His positioning is not great and Adam Johnson took the pi55 out of him last week. He is still potential. Galloway looked more of a defender than Baines and Garbutt today and as a CB we know he can head a ball which is also something Baines and Garbutt struggle with. Only seen Galloway the once today and was impressed with his defending. Doubt he will come close to Baines attacking but will anyone.

Good point, winning high balls in the box often tends to be a feature of Allardyce's tactics, wonder if it was why Hibbert was chosen over Luke against the same opponent last time as well.
