Went to the game last night. He was superb. Yes, against poor opposition, but he was the only one who drove forward. The U21s actually reminded me a lot of Everton this season! A lot of pretty football in midfield but Caroll, Hughes and Ward-Prowse (who is a terrific player), were well contained by the Belarus midfield apart from in the first 10 minutes.

Garret played brilliantly though. I honestly think he's waiting until the Euros are over to decide - I've heard (just rumours really, but from a few different sources (for lack of a better word) that I picked up while covering City a bit last year), that City are very interested. Looks like Clichy or Kolarov will be leaving (potentially both), and they see Garbutt as an ideal back-up given he fills the British quota as well.

Well if he goes there you'll know that the 'game time' stuff was BS, because he wont get a sniff.

It is the defensive side of his game against better players that causes most concern.

If Man City sign him it will be simply a numbers exercise for them. He is simply miles off being good enough to play regularly in a top team.

The longer it drags on the more I think he may stay at Everton and makes me wonder about the future of Oviedo.
If Garbutt were leaving I think a deal should be in place and announced by now .

I'd imagine so, but the two left backs they've got are really nothing special, and it's not like there's loads of top quality left backs available either. City want to spend big on De Bruyne, Sterling and possibly Pogba (though that may be a push this summer). To do that they've got to shift a lot of deadwood. Whichever is left out of Clichy and Kolarov, would be under pressure from Garbutt I think. He'd go from third choice left back here to second choice at a team challenging for the title. He'd probably get game time. Much rather he stayed at Goodison but if he wants off so be it. Not going to hold a grudge for him leaving, wherever he goes (unless it's the RS like) - and they're loving a 'free' transfer this summer.

He's really not bad defensively though? In the games he's played (especially big ones in Europe and against Arsenal away) he's been calm and composed and hasn't had any real trouble.

Just get him signed.

If Hibbert has been good enough to earn 30k a week for the past decade, then Garbutt has already shown as much if not more than that useless get to receive a similar contract.

We have to be understanding of his dilemma. Apparently.

It's not really a "dilemma" though is it?

He wants more football than we can offer, so he's probably going to go elsewhere to get it. We'll get some money for him leaving through a tribunal and he'll go somewhere and get more minutes

It's a shame if he does leave like, as he's a good player, but Oviedo and Galloway have proven to be competant at LB so it's not the end of the world

This whole idea that you have that this is some grand conspiracy by him and his agent is a bit head scratching though

I mean, I didn't see you having a go at Martinez when he signed Alcaraz with pretty much full knowledge that he was already injured only for it to be announced a day or two after his signing that he was hurt. So he basically got paid to sit on trainer's table because Martinez did one of his former players a favour. Didn't see you getting worked up about that

But Garbutt decides he'll get a better chance elsewhere than here and suddenly it's knives out and a big plan by Garbutt and his agent to take money out of the clubs pockets

Interesting

He's very raw to be stepping into that company. City have a big transfer pot and if either Kolarov or Clichy move on they wont be filling the gap with Garbutt and leaving it at that.

If he goes there it's a money move.

Alcarez gave Wigan his all and saw his contract out. Everton trained Garbutt up, have got hardly any return on investment and now he'll walk out.

Not a very appropriate example.
