Alcarez gave Wigan his all and saw his contract out. Everton trained Garbutt up, have got hardly any return on investment and now he'll walk out.

Not a very appropriate example.

It is though

Martinez had to have signed him to a deal with full knowledge that he was injured

So we essentially paid someone to sit out an injury. During that time he didn't play and when he did play it was clear he was crocked

That's money out of the clubs pocket's at the whim of the manager so he could have some ex players from his old club at Everton. It was essentially "jobs for the boys" and actually scandalous when you think about it

That doesn't seem to bother you though whereas a young player leaving for more football does, to the point that you've decided it's a grand conspiracy by the player and his agent to fleece the club

Manager goes for players of former club is only scandalous if he's ripping off his former club or paying through the nose for them. Alcarez was on a free. How on earth is that a scandal?

Because he was signed will full knowledge that he was injured

So we essentially paid him wages to sit out an injury, wages which could have been used on other players

How is that worse than a young player seeking out more minutes?

I mean, what is Garbutt supposed to do?

He can't sign a two year contract when he knows he's off in the window

The FA would be all over us as we would have essentially signed him to a contract that both parties knew they were never going to honour. We would be signing him to bump his price up. That would open a massive can of worms

So Garbutt has a choice to make

A) Sign with Everton and continue to sit on a bench
or
B) Leave Everton out of contract for more minues elsewhere

There's no conspiracy there. There's no pre meditated plan. It's a player looking to play more

If anything, it's admirable. Signing the Everton contract is the easy option. Big club, good team, good manager, it's all there for him

But he want's to play now and wherever he goes it will be a step down. He's willing to go to a club lower than us to get the playing time he craves

Now, if he signs for City to sit on their bench, that's a whole different kettle of fish, and he'd rightly get stick at that point

Alcaraz joined us on a free transfer and I would say that his wages were not enormous. He was signed as cover and that is exactly what he provided. He was never first choice and deputised in a competent fashion in most games.
He had one nightmare game in particular in Russia , but John Stones was equally bad in the previous round.
From the minute Alcaraz signed it seems to me that too many people were determined not to like him and find fault wherever they could.

The centrehalf we are trying to sign at the moment is a replacement for Alcaraz and from the figures thrown around it will cost somewhere between 4m and 8m whereas he was signed for nothing.

I would be open to selling Oviedo & Kev....but your idea is better.

If the Kev out, Delofeu in rumours come to pass, Oviedo and Delofeu as a wing pairing could produce some exciting stuff

Galloway can then be moved to back up at CB, Browning can continue as back up for RB and then Garbutt can be back up LB

If Van Dijk then signs, you have a Stones and Jags/Van Dijk first choice pairing, with Galloway as an option at CB, with cover also at both LB and RB if needed

We'd have Baines and Garbutt as the designated LB's, but Galloway and Oviedo there who could have it as their secondary position. Plenty of cover basically

And I've not even mentioned Pennington there either

We've got options at the back thankfully, and a lot of them are young lads with good promise

Makes a change to last season, with aged Distin and Alcaraz lurching around (I do like Distin but it was time for him to go, sexy beast though he is)

You could even loan Duffus at that point

Duffus is a striker mate.
