Remember when Baines first came to Everton.
He spent most of the first eighteen months as a sub with Lescott playing left back.
Baines really had to work hard at Everton to become the player he is and while at Wigan
I don't think he looked as if he was ever going to be as good as he is.
My memory is that at one stage there was a chance that we were going to sell him to Sunderland before he really made the left back slot his own.

It may be that at Everton Martinez and Baines are grooming Garbutt for the future and he is working hard to get to a certain level.

Your getting your wires crossed mate. He talked to Sunderland when he was leaving Wigan... And according to Roy keane's book said " I'm an evertonian....and if everton come in for me I'm off"

The time your thinking of when we almost sold him was to Blackburn and was apparently went to involve us swapping him for Stephen warnock.... How lucky was that?

Bale used to be similar to him while at saints..... Obviously I'm not saying Garbutt is going to be sold for. 90m ... Before anyone starts...

I watched a lot of saints as I lived there and all my mates are saints...

Bale had a fantastic cross and delivery from corners etc... But his defending was not upto standard... He had absolutely shocking games (defensively) IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP ! but his talent was there for all to see. Garbutt has talent ... And it's there to see... Positional sense and decision making come with experience... Crossing ability and set peice delivery is rare as rocking horse p o o h. Letting him go will be a huge mistake IMOIMO

Bale was 16/17 at Saints.

Hes a goner

Have you even heard him being interviewed once ? Until the kid says he wants to leave, let's not jump to any conclusions. I do agree though, he's good enough to start for us, let's give him some games especially now while Baines is out, and make him feel wanted.

I really hope Baines is back for Wednesday. That Ibe absolutely terrored Oviedo, can you imagine what Cuadrado or Willian are going to do?

Oveido looked very poor yesterday. Makes u remember (not that anyone should forget) just how good Baines is!

Garbutt's gota be in with a sniff of a start against Oveido. Can't be much between them!

The Sunderland links did start up again though, about a year after we signed him, cos he wasn't getting a game. See here:

If I remember rightly, it all really changed for Baines when Yobo got injured v Chelsea in a night game v Chelsea before Christmas. Lescott shuffled across into the middle and Baines made left back his own.

I think I'd trust the backroom staff on this one...after all, they see the lad day in, day out...we've seen him for one cameo appearance

...and as for Oviedo..he's now suddenly become crap? Behave
On your first point, Osman had a cemented place in the team week in and week out even tho half the time he was an utter liability on the pitch and he was almost never subbed.

On your Osman point....we've hardly been pulling up trees since he's been missing...but the booing seems to have decreased
