If you watch again ( shot that hits the post ), Ov thinks Barry's gonna block off Ibe, but Barry lets him stroll past which leaves Oviedo slighty out of position. Barry's fault ! I agree Oviedo had a good game & I think he defends better than Bainsy, who's not the same player this season without Pienaar. IMO

Haha, next Barry will be blamed for the JFK assassination on here. That's probably more believable than blaming him for Oviedo turning his back on a runner and inviting him to run him 20 yards unchallenged.

He didn't have a good game - he was terrorised by Ibe for no bloody reason and was the only way Liverpool looked like scoring. What I don't understand is why Oviedo was so afraid of being beat on the outside for pace when he's not exactly Hibbert.

Summer. I was told a while ago he was offered a contract, but he wanted assurances on his playing time (completely understandable tbh) which couldn't be given to him because of Baines and Oviedo. Nothing new really. I just think he's something we really need to hold on to.

Guess oviedo is the new whipping boy, kinell he got beat about 2 times because he had no one helping him. He soon got to grips with it and was sound

Yeah agreed, turning his back the first time was awful.

Doing it 4 times in the same half was criminally bad and if Garbutt had of been on the bench he would have got the hook.

Not the right mentality imo. Get out of our club.

Commenting on one bad performance doesn't make him a whipping boy.
Wasnt even a bad performance though, as said, he got beat maybe 3 times tops first half were the kid ibe got a straight run at him because no one come over to double up, past the 30 mark Oviedo was well up to speed and had it on lockdown from then on. Did well going forward too the limited times he got the chance

Yep I thought Oviedo was solid if not spectacular but fine what was required. I thought Ibe had a decent game and was man of the match for them which tells you all you need to k ow about how gash they were. We obviously just wanted to show them we were just as good at being gash hence the gashness of the game.

I really hope we keep him. He has an air of John Stones about him when he first came in and will be a terrific player for us going forward. The consolation is we will get a fee for him if he goes at a tribunal.

As for Oviedo he was nowhere near as bad as being made out. There was one incident were he backed off Ibe too much and should have tackled him. He probably didn't give Ibe enough respect and wanted to avoid losing a Free Kick. He also didn't have any cover in front of him and Besic watched Ibe run past him (again one of the few things he did wrong).

Other than that Oviedo was faultless and had a very solid game, helping to keep a clean sheet against a side that have been flying offensively this season. Him and Coleman were given hard jobs yesterday, which was defend the wide areas without any real support in front of them. The 3 Central Midfielders jobs were to close off space in front of our back 4 where Coutinho, Stirling, Gerrard and Sturridge like to play.

This is not as easy task, especially when playing against someone with the pace of Ibe. This is more Oviedo's strength than Garbutts, and he is fast and agile enough to 1 V 1 mark a winger. The idea Oviedo was awful is ridiculous. In honesty he was as solid as Baines was at left back, and I think may be slightly better defensively than him.

Oviedo didn't look great against Liverpool, but let's not forget he had no-one in front of him for the majority of the game as we were playing with very little width. He was often isolated and didn't have that pass down the line when he got the ball.

....agree, if I remember rightly Barrie was also keeping an eye on the player he was covering (Gerrard I think). I also thought Oviedo looked a little shaky but that happens when a winger gets the better of early exchanges.

.....is it right that we get a fee if/when Garbutt leaves? I appreciate this is the case for youngsters brought through the ranks but we bought Garbutt (£1m?) from Leeds. Suspect there is a sell on % if we do get any monies.
