Played well today, but honestly who didn't? Gibson looked like Iniesta today and while I would love for him to keep up that level of play, we know it won't happen.

Its tough having 3 genuinely quality left backs, the thought of parting with any of them is upsetting.
Just imagine how good "Geads" would have looked today!
We would have scored at least 10 over the two legs if our magician was on the park.
I know how much my fellow members of the "Geads Appreciation Society", like @deipnosophist @Prevenger17 to name but two of the esteemed, have missed him....

Hope he signs. Hes ahead of Oveido for me and could do a job ahead of Baines I reckon. Some of his crossing and free kicks were quality last night

For me, our best left back. You may think I'm jumping the gun but this kid is a proper footballer. Baines has got a fight on his hands in my opinion.

Very promising player. Needs to sign that deal. Imo is better than Oveido or most certainly will be long term.
You could be right about that, but consider this: how about Garbutt and Oviedo as a long-term replacement for the Baines & Pienaar left flank duo? The big difference is that both Oviedo and Garbutt can defend, whereas Pienaar was never much cop at that. I honestly believe that Garbutt and Oviedo could continually switch positions between LB and LW during a game and we would lose nothing either way round.

In the meantime, with Baines still in the mix, fitness and form determines who starts at LB. At the moment, Garbutt should be getting the nod with Mirallas in front of him. Jags and Barry nearby should be enough to ensure that any mistakes are mopped up swiftly.

Don't think he will be signing a deal unless we can get him to commit and then promise to loan him out for a year. I think he fancies his chances at being a PL regular now and there's no way he's going to be shifting Baines long term yet. I wish Martinez would rotate the 3 of them though to play left back and left wing as they all are great going forward and would give us some much needed balance.
