I think if anything that’s an illustration of how poor a standard of competition the U23’s are. The lad has been out to a couple of clubs on loan and hardly set the world alight struggling for game time even at a lower level nor it seems has any real competition for his signature from other clubs. like every player at everton id love him to succeed but i’m Unconvinced he’s got a first team future here. Obviously I’d be delighted to see that opinion be wrong .

TBH, on Baines think you missed my point and that was his inability to get back speedily. Shows he is past it IMO, and not just mine - ask DaveK.

I agree with you but my point was we could have Mo Farah there and he'd struggle with what he's being asked.

We are badly lacking any balance on the left, In the Europa cup match or league cup, I'd like to see Garbutt LB wth Baines playing a left of a midfield three. Part of the reason we lack balance is that whoever plays on the left is right footed and always wants to cut in.

I'd pick the bench. Not good getting forward but would stop more crosses than Cuco
