Don't think that he should play as a full back, he should play just in front of the left back, particularly in away games, to provide the defensive support to Martina (which Siggy is absolutely rubbish at, Bournemouth looked like they were going to score every time they got the ball on that side).

When we attack, sorry about that Sam, we would at least be able to knock in a first time or early ball into the box for our strikers to attack rather than dragging it back onto the right foot and passing square or backwards. Strikers work really hard to get a yard of space so that they can put the ball into the net. Lukaku would have score many more if we'd had a left footed attacking player (Brady or Townsend, both £12M).

You really want the reserves’ left back, who couldn’t cut it in the Championship, playing out of position to replace Gylfi Sigurdsson? Besides, playing two full backs on the same side never works.

If Garbutt can't get a look in over Martina he needs to get out asap. That said, on 25k a week most young lads would be more than happy to take the cash and sit on their arses for another year or two. Funny thing is he actually looked decent when he played in the few games.

He’s 24 and happy to sit in Everton’s reserves with no chance of a Premier League game. You do wonder.

For me he should be starting at LB over Martina, regardless of whether he's a premier league LB. Martina is neither a prem quality back, nor a left back. At least Garbutt is a LB by trade.

He is a dreadful defender

Has a great left foot on him, and that's about all he really has going for him. Not that quick, can't really carry the ball, the polar opposite of Jon Joe Kenny at defending his back post (he is abysmal at it), not particularly committed, doesn't track his man well enough, doesn't stop crosses.

There is a very good reason why he's had two loan flops and has had one decent game for our U23s all season - with the contract he's on, he'll be here for a while though, I would imagine. Nobody in their right minds in the lower divisions would pay him the sort of money he earns here, so he will probably sit out his contract and then be released. Nowhere near good enough to be in our first team squad, even allowing for the fact that Cuco Martina is currently our left back. That's the level we're talking here - and you can ask any Fulham or Wigan fan to corroborate this for you
