yes, it did. But at this point in time last year, we were top of the league, still in the cup, playing wonderful football and saying James was the greatest player in the world.

Obviously that all changed as the season progressed, but in absolutely no way can anyone claim Benitez is doing better than Ancelloti did at the same point last year.

This point last year we had a point less and had lost a game more.

This point last year we hadn't played 3/4 games without our best 2 scorers and our captain.

It's utterly irrelevant how "nice" a manager is. Harry Catterick was a terrible dose according to many who knew him, including Howard Kendall. But he was elite for this club. All that matters is if he is good. We had lots of nice managers over the years - Walter, Silva, Roberto. All of them largely useless when it mattered.

I will say, in their defence, that they often had mitigating factors in their demise, but niceness was no attribute.

Carlo was nice, with forked tongue as it turned out. Benitez is doing very well so great for me.

Was lukewarm to his appointment I usually back the managers pretty well. BFSA was an instant no for me all other appointments made sense. I don’t know if I can warm to FSW but I appreciate what he is doing and he has my support

He quit Valencia with a year left on his deal. He quit Extremadura as well.

How many of them did he quit to join another team, as that's what is being discussed, whether he would do a Carlo or not.

At Extremadura, he quit to take a year out to continue studying the game.

At Valencia he quit because they never gave him any of the players he asked for. He had plenty of offers that Summer including Inter. He didn't quit because he got poached though.

Not sure of the relevance of that question? I was comparing Benitez's first 9 games to Ancelloti's first 9 games, not the subsequent 30.

The team have made a good start to the season and hopefully we can kick on with players getting fit again.

But it's too early to know how this will play out. Our form fell away badly in the second half of last season so it's not the time to go overboard or become complacent. We've achieved nothing yet and there are 31 games to go.

The only real criticism I can have at this point is the lack of respect shown in the cup. There's no reason we shouldn't still be in it.
