Manchester United

Some great points there!
My dad is now gone - god bless him. He was a United fan due to the Munich air crash. He also claimed he played against Duncan Edwards when he played for the school team. We were always sceptical about that one, but he was adamant that he did. The reason my brother supported City is that we were a family from east Manchester which always was and still is a big City stronghold. I was born less than 5 minutes away from where the Etihad is. The Etihad is on top of an old coal mine where my granddad worked. Most of the kids at school supported City which my brother did and all of his mates did. There were obviously a few United fans but they were in minority and in the late 60's and early 70's City were the far superior team and won trophies on a regular basis and we would beat United in the derbies way more often than not - so City was the dominant team at that time.

I think what you say about football being expensive nowadays is spot on. I see dad's at the game with 2 & 3 kids and I really do wonder how they afford it? Live football is seriously expensive now so as you say the only way they have access to it is on the computer or TV. When I was a kid live football on the TV really was a rarity. Which is why the FA Cup used to be such a big deal. I think we just have to accept the world has changed massively. Going to the match on a Saturday used to be the be all and end all - you lived for it. Not now and probably never again. It was a big part of the community then as were the pubs. Neither are now unfortunately.
Dead on, even with the decent job I shudder at the though of a couple of season tickets.

East Manchester a city stronghold lol what total garbage that is, since hey moved to wastelands sure they have a few more fans around here but a stronghold , im afraid this a total fantasy

Where do you think the big City, and United areas are mate?

And how many local ST holders do you reckon United have? Is there an age, region divide in Manchester much?

I would say city is South Manchester longsight , moss side etc probably Gorton , Denton etc on the East Side , for United a lot in East Manchester and parts of North Manchester , the rest of the city mainly an even spread , then surrounding areas United have a lot in Salford area , city in Stockport and Tameside , regarding st olders i think there was some kind of study a few years back and United had marginally more in greater Manchester but there was not a lot in it , as regards religion back in the 50s and 60s United were mainly known as a Catholic club and had a lot of support in the Irish Community but i dont think thats there some much nowadays , United of course had a lot of out of town fans mainly because of a nations sympathy after Munich , both teams have very loyal core support , there is a lot of bitterness unfortunately but i think United fans despise Liverpool more than any other club

Where did the United/Catholic perception come from?

How many United ST holders do you recon are from Manchester or areas in and around it?

I think United have around 53 thousand season ticket holders im not sure how many of them would be from say greater Manchester boundaries , i would say well over 60 per cent at least , as for the Catholic issue i think it started with Matt Busby and a lot of the board at the time in the 50s , and then because Manchester had a large Irish immigrant community it carried on from there , i dont think it was ever near the levels of Glasgow , maybe not on the level as Liverpool , i know when United were formed as Newton heath and then changed their name they nearly changed it to Manchester Celtic

Interesting. I know there's a big Irish community in Wythenshaw and places like that.

As for ST holders it was just for intrigue really mate. Not sure if you had seen, but Liverpool had a take up rate amongst "local" (IE within and around the Liverpool area for tiered restrictions) of under 6000 fans for recent games. Obviously United are a bit closer to Liverpool in composition of the team, so I did wonder where you be at. It seems much much higher.

Well yes like i said i am not absolutely sure but i think there was survey done on the season ticket holders for United/City from Manchester and Greater Manchester a couple of years back , yeah Wythenshawe of course you know i forgot about that i think its still one of the biggest council estates in Europe , probably a 50-50 split down there , city with their recent period of success may now have more younger fans that will take time to see , but for 99 per cent of Mancunians you are Red or Blue forever

Pressing on with my point regarding tonights game will OGS show some bottle and drop de gea from the team tonight , he has become a liabilty and its clear now the defence do not trsut him after countless howlers , pogba is injured yet again do not expect him for a month or so now , tonight will be a tough game West Ham have improved a lot and have a good team and will be very difficult i feel , surely Van de Beek will play although many United fans are starting to wonder did OGS actually buy this guy or was it one of the glazers cousins who took a shine to him , 40 million and he has hardly played , who knows whats going at Old Trafford corridors of power

Whats the view on the defence?

Maguire seen as a flop or a good player? Seems to be the weakest part of your team on paper...

The defence has been awful the keeper and the 2 centre backs have been very poor , every time a cross comes in looks like will concede , the full backs have done ok but central defence and the de gea have been very poor , 30 goals conceded in the league and 19 at home has been useless , de gea should be dropped he is our biggest liabilty then linderlof

Whether OGS has the bottle to drop him im not sure , he was a top keeper a few years back but since the world cup 2018 in Russia he has lost his confidence completely , positional play is hopeless stands on 6 yard line all through the match , can still make some good saves but overall he is finished

Is there something about City's colours of sky blue being consistent with the first three levels of Freemasonry? Busby as a player I think refused to join. I am open to correction!
